Safety Manager - Heavy Civil

Location: Central Virginia (Richmond/ Henrico County surrounding area)

Tech USA is recruiting for an experienced Safety Manager to join a leading sitework contractor with work in Virginia and NC nearly 100 years now.

Requirements:

  • Project market experience: 1) CCR pond excavation or closure (ideally both) on energy stations for fly-ash / remediation; 2) other large, energy station related remediation projects in NC or Virginia
  • CHST, OSHA 500, and Bachelor degree in Safety
  • 5 years minimum experience in professional safety role working directly for a self-perform heavy civil contractor
  • Communication skills: report daily and as needed directly to corporate safety director. Need ability to interact with all project partners as the face of the company to be professional and represent well.
  • Leadership: help to hire, train, manage, and mentor your own team of 3-4 site safety officers. Ideal candidate enjoys mentoring and developing the future

General Responsibilities:

  • Plans, directs and manages all Safety activities performed on multiple job sites with minimal direction from Corporate or Executive Management.
  • Conducts Health and Safety Training Programs and maintain all records as needed for the project.
  • Analyzes all processes, operations, and facilities for hazards and changes, or eliminates the hazards.
  • Assists with / maintains daily STAs (Safety Task Assignments) with all Company work crews on the project
  • Provides confined space training as necessary on the project
  • Investigates the causes of all accidents and injuries, and completes reports as required.
  • Uses Accidents / near misses, etc. as training to help prevent future occurrences.
  • Inventories and maintains appropriate quantities of all necessary safety equipment and PPE.
  • Interacts/communicates with the Safety Director to recommend improvements to safety policies and procedures based on periodic site audits.
  • Coordinates with all functional areas within the company and project partners, to assure safety, security, physical and environmental issues + procedures are fully understood and executed.
