Safety & DOT Compliance Manager - Mike's Westside Rental : Job Details

Position Overview: Mike's Westside Rental is seeking a Safety & DOT Compliance Manager to lead and manage safety initiatives and ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal transportation regulations, including DOT standards. This role plays a vital part in cultivating a strong culture of safety across all branches and field operations, while also ensuring the company's fleet and personnel meet stringent regulatory requirements. Primary ResponsibilitiesSafety Management Oversee and support the implementation and continuous improvement of the company's safety programs across all locations. Perform annual safety evaluations at each branch and develop corrective action plans with follow-up reporting. Lead incident investigations by gathering documentation, identifying root causes, and recommending preventative actions. Deliver both formal and informal safety training to employees, promoting safe work practices throughout the organization. Collaborate with field teams and branch leaders to monitor safety performance and ensure alignment with company safety goals. Support the safety setup for new branches or operational expansions. Coordinate responses to safety audits and inspections, providing thorough documentation and reports to company leadership. Engage with internal departments and regulatory agencies to manage audits, corrective actions, and compliance inquiries. Stay informed on evolving safety regulations and industry best practices through ongoing professional development. DOT Compliance Ensure full compliance with all applicable DOT and FMCSA regulations, including driver qualification files, drug and alcohol testing programs, and vehicle inspection/maintenance records. Audit driver logs and documentation to ensure completeness and regulatory compliance. Provide targeted DOT compliance training for drivers and supervisors, including topics such as CSA scores and pre-trip inspections. Monitor company DOT performance metrics and develop strategies for continuous improvement. Maintain accurate, up-to-date records for both DOT-regulated and non-DOT company vehicles and trailers, including registration, inspections, and required documentation. Oversee the onboarding process for new drivers, ensuring all required DOT documentation is collected and filed correctly. Serve as the company's point of contact for DOT audits, roadside inspections, and investigations. Partner with fleet management and dispatch to ensure all vehicles are operated and maintained in compliance with DOT standards. Remain up to date on changes to transportation regulations and adjust company policies accordingly. Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Transportation Compliance, or a related field (or significant progress toward completion). Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and related regulatory frameworks. Proven experience conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to lead training sessions and present findings clearly. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail. Ability to analyze safety data and recommend strategic improvements. Preferred Skills & Attributes Hands-on, proactive approach to safety and compliance management.
