Position SummaryUnder the guidance of the Operations Manager, the Safety Advocate maintains a safe and supportive environment across Catholic Charities of Northwest California (CCNWC) facilities and programs. This 100% on site position ensures the physical safety and emotional well-being of everyone on site, with a strong emphasis on trauma-informed care, de-escalation, and compassionate communication. The Safety Advocate is part of a dedicated team that responds to on-site crises, enforces program guidelines, assists with janitorial and facility upkeep, and contributes to the welcoming presence of our organization.

Essential Functions1. Respond to emergency calls and crisis situations with urgency and compassion using trauma-informed de-escalation techniques.2. Monitor safety risks and proactively address concerns using trauma-informed de-escalation techniques.3. Maintain awareness of guests with restricted or modified access to services. Ensure non-eligible individuals exit the premises safely, calmly, and respectfully.4. Safely and effectively de-escalate disruptive situations and/or aggressive people using acceptable physical de-escalation and crisis prevention techniques.5. Maintain a presence in the facility through strategic building rounds and support of staff members.6. Ensure secure opening and closing of facility.7. Understand and follow the CCNWC Safety Manual and Emergency Safety Plan (EAP). Enforce safety protocols while maintaining empathy and respect.8. Document incidents and safety concerns accurately and promptly9. Participate in safety drills and emergency preparedness. Assist with monthly safety inspections. Support in safety screening.10. Communicate effectively with First responders, EMT, Fire, and Police Departments. Use multiple communication tools for effectiveness including hand-held radios.11. Assist with exterior and interior cleanliness12. Courteously assist guests and clients, giving information, responding to questions offering accurate information about programs.13. Support restorative re-entry processes, including client meetings when appropriate.14. Attend team meetings and training. Collaborate across teams to uphold a welcoming, mission-aligned environment.15. Be available nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.16. Support the Mission, Vision, and Values of Catholic Charities in the performance of all essential job functions and responsibilities.

Other Responsibilities1.May assist in food preparation for client meals.2.Work with Diocese of Santa Rosa and local parishes as appropriate and requested.3.Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required1.High school diploma or High School Equivalency (HSE). 1 year of experience in security services preferred.2.Current Security Guard Registration “Guard Card” that includes the successful completion of a background check.3.Strong written and verbal communication; organization, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.4.Able to stay calm under pressure and respond effectively in crisis situations5.Currently possess or are willing and able to complete certifications in CPR/First Aid, within 3 months of hire6.Maintain positive relationships with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Law Enforcement (LE).7.Participate in Agency-authorized skills and techniques in the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training sponsored by the Crisis Prevention Institute8.Ability to maintain boundaries while showing care and professionalism9.Excellent interpersonal skills, cooperative, friendly, proactive, and helpful attitude with clients and co-workers. Ability to work closely with clients and other employees to ensure a positive and constructive environment.10.Ability to work under pressure with a positive, solution-oriented approach.11.Computer literacy required including experience with Microsoft 365 Suite.12.Passion and enthusiasm for the mission of Catholic Charities and its clients.13.Valid driver license and at least state required minimum of automobile insurance, clear DMV driving record and ability to provide own transportation. Must be willing and able to travel between agency sites.14.Must pass DOJ background clearance (fingerprinting) in accordance with the Diocese of Santa Rosa's policies prior to start of employment.15.Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
