Job Summary:
Provide trauma-informed and victim-centered crisis intervention advocacy, forensic exam accompaniment in WMC Emergency Department, safety planning, referral services, and general information to survivors and secondary victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, intimate partner violence, human trafficking, stalking, harassment, and trauma. Accompany survivors to medical appointments, law enforcement, court appearances, and other related activities. Assist the Senior Director with administrative tasks including office management, grants, training, and screenings.
Responsibilities:
- Escort victims to medical, forensic, legal, and law enforcement appointments.
- Provide information, referrals, crisis intervention, and case management for victims of various traumas.
- Conduct hospital screenings related to victimology.
- Oversee crisis interventions, supportive listening, and case management.
- Assist with victim compensation applications and emergency HIV prophylaxis payments.
- Participate in countywide Lethality Assessment Program (LAP) including service delivery, safety planning, data collection, and referrals.
- Refer victims to local services including shelters, mental health, medical care, and other providers.
- Perform trauma-informed screening and assessments for PTSD in adult and pediatric trauma patients, maintaining accurate records.
- Collaborate with law enforcement for victim assistance and forensic kit collection.
- Maintain and monitor data for grants, reporting, and program statistics.
- Document all services and maintain logs for program activities and staff training.
- Coordinate with forensic teams and emergency departments regarding cases and statistics.
- Advocate for victims with service providers and court personnel.
- Develop and update protocols and training materials.
- Follow-up with victims to address ongoing needs and issues.
- Manage volunteer advocate training and certifications.
- Respond to 24/7 crisis hotline, providing support and documentation.
- Organize team meetings and training sessions.
- Oversee daily operations of the Crime Victims Advocacy Services.
- Conduct outreach, education, and training within hospital and community settings.
- Participate in relevant committees and task forces.
- Engage in ongoing professional development, at least 10 hours annually.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience: 0-3 years.
Education: High School Diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's preferred. Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
Certifications: Training provided for SAAVE Rape Crisis Advocate and LAP Advocate certifications.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Ability to supervise and empower volunteers.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, victim rights, and criminal justice system.
- Proficiency in computer skills, especially MS Office and internet research.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
