Responsibilities of a Nurse Unit Manager (RN/LPN)As a Nurse Unit Manager at Nazareth Health and Rehab, you will be a pivotal leader, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and the efficient operation of your assigned unit. Your comprehensive responsibilities will include:
- Individualized Patient Assessment: Proactively assess the unique and evolving needs of each patient to accurately determine and implement appropriate, individualized treatment plans that promote optimal health outcomes.
- Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and their families on best practices to promote healing, foster wellness, and ensure continuity of care upon discharge or transition.
- Progress Tracking and Compliance: Meticulously track treatments and monitor patient progress according to stringent HIPAA guidelines and all other relevant privacy regulations, maintaining precise and confidential records.
- Interdisciplinary Coordination: Efficiently coordinate with supervising physicians and the broader interdisciplinary team to ensure a seamless, holistic recovery process for all patients.
- Staff Supervision and Oversight: Directly supervise the nursing staff on assigned shifts, providing guidance, support, and oversight by monitoring the accurate distribution of medications, proper execution of blood draws, and all other critical elements of patient care.
- Regular Nursing Rounds: Systematically conduct nursing rounds on all units multiple times throughout each shift, ensuring patient safety, assessing care needs, and addressing immediate concerns.
- Staff and Family Education: Provide essential education, as needed, to staff, residents, and resident family members, enhancing understanding of health conditions, care protocols, and facility procedures.
- Compliance Assurance: Actively ensure staff are performing all duties in strict accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines, as well as facility policies and procedures, maintaining the highest standards of care and regulatory compliance.
- Performance Evaluation and Coaching: Participate in the evaluation of nursing staff performance, providing constructive feedback and coaching to foster professional development and adherence to best practices.
- Resource Management: Manage unit resources effectively, including supplies and equipment, to ensure efficient operation and quality care delivery.
- Conflict Resolution: Address and resolve patient or staff concerns, mediating conflicts and promoting a positive unit environment.
- Other Duties as Assigned: Graciously perform all other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Nursing, Director of Nursing, or Administrator, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to the overall success and smooth operation of nursing services.
Qualifications Of a Nurse Unit ManagerTo be successful and impactful in this leadership role, you should possess:
- Strong Autonomy and Teamwork: The proven ability to work independently when managing unit operations and making critical decisions, while also excelling as a vital part of a collaborative group that champions teamwork and shared goals.
- Computer Proficiency: Solid computer knowledge, including comfort with electronic health records (EHR) and standard office software.
- Relevant Experience (Preferred): Previous long-term care experience is preferred, providing a foundational understanding of our patient population and operational context.
- Specialized Experience (Preferred): Prior experience in inpatient and palliative care is preferred, indicating a breadth of relevant clinical expertise.
- Leadership Experience (Preferred): Prior experience managing staff is preferred, demonstrating essential leadership, supervisory, and team-building capabilities.
LicenseTo be considered for this vital leadership position, you must possess:
- An Active and unrestricted (RN) Registered Nurse OR (LPN) Licensed Practical Nurse license within the state of Wisconsin. (RN is preferred, LPN considered with relevant experience)
