Position SummaryThe Registered Nurse (RN) will be responsible for providing direct, high-quality nursing care to patients with a variety of medical and/or behavioral health conditions. The RN will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring that care is delivered in a safe, efficient, and compassionate manner. The RN will provide holistic, patient-centered care in accordance with the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) Nurse Practice Act, the standards of practice, regulatory standards, and facility policies, ensuring that the unique needs of this patient population are met in a safe and therapeutic environment. This role requires critical thinking, clinical judgment, patient advocacy, and adherence to best practices and regulatory standards.Job-specific Responsibilities

oProvides nursing care to adult and/or pediatric patients with a variety of medical and behavioral health diagnoses, utilizing evidence-based practices, critical thinking, and clinical judgment.oAdministers medications, treatments, and interventions as prescribed by physicians, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and nursing standards.oMonitors and assesses patient progress, identifying signs of acute illness, exacerbations of chronic conditions, or behavioral health crises.oCollaborates with a multidisciplinary team (e.g., physicians, social workers, behavioral health specialists, physical therapists) to develop and implement individualized care plans.oEducates patients and families on disease management, medications, and coping strategies, particularly with complex medical and behavioral conditions.oProvides crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques in situations involving patients with behavioral health challenges.oCommunicates effectively with patients' families, caregivers, and healthcare teams, providing updates, addressing concerns, and offering support.oCoordinates care with physicians and specialists, ensuring effective management of complex cases involving both medical and behavioral health components.oCollaborates with nursing and other departments to ensure the seamless and effective delivery of care.oImplements and adhere to established safety protocols, especially for patients with developmental or behavioral health concerns.oMaintains up-to-date knowledge and skills in acute care nursing, including emergency procedures, safe handling of medications, and management of specialized equipment.oEnsures compliance with infection control standards, documentation requirements, and nursing practices to maintain high-quality care.oPromotes patient and family engagement in the care process, ensuring informed decision-making and comfort.oDocuments patient care accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with hospital policies, nursing standards, and Texas BON guidelines.

oAdvocates for patients and their families to ensure comprehensive, individualized care that meets both physical and emotional needs.oProvides compassionate education to patients and families on disease management, medications, and coping strategies, particularly with patients having complex medical and behavioral needs.oEnsures patient and family engagement in care decisions, promoting informed choices and patient comfort throughout treatment.oCommunicates proactively with patients' families and caregivers, providing regular updates and addressing concerns to ensure a positive care experience.oDemonstrates sensitivity and respect for diverse patient populations, ensuring inclusive and individualized care.

  • Finance
oPromotes stewardship of hospital resources while ensuring quality patient care.oManages and conserves healthcare resources by using medical supplies, medications, and equipment efficiently, minimizing waste while maintaining the quality of care.oAssists with accurate patient billing by ensuring proper documentation of services provided, including treatments, medications, and interventions.oSupports the cost-effective delivery of care by collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to streamline care plans and minimize unnecessary procedures or hospital readmissions.oAbides by hospital policies on resource allocation and report concerns regarding overuse or misuse of supplies or services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
EducationPOSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited school of nursing/nursing program required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing/nursing program preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum two (2) years working in an inpatient hospital/rehab setting preferred.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in pediatric nursing, preferably in an acute care setting.
  • Strong clinical skills in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care in a fast-paced and complex environment.
  • Experience working with patients who have medical and/or behavioral health diagnoses is strongly preferred.

Licensure/Certification
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Texas.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) from American Heart Association//American Red Cross required, must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from date of hire
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) from American Heart Association//American Red Cross required, must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from date of hire, per unit requirement
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) from American Heart Association//American Red Cross required, must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from date of hire, per unit requirement
  • De-escalation training within 30 days after hire.
  • Must maintain current certification in good standing during employment with this facility.
