The RN Educator for the Pre-Op 101 Program is a vital member of the perioperative education team, responsible for designing and delivering evidence-based education for new and transitioning nurses entering the surgical services setting. This individual will facilitate learning opportunities through classroom instruction, clinical mentoring, skills labs, and simulations focused on pediatric perioperative nursing. The RN Educator will collaborate with nursing leadership, clinical experts, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure a smooth onboarding process and successful transition into pediatric perioperative nursing practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and lead the Pre-Op 101 curriculum and training program for perioperative nursing staff, tailored to pediatrics.
  • Provide classroom education, clinical instruction, and mentorship to new perioperative RNs.
  • Promote evidence-based practice and adherence to AORN guidelines and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct skills validation and competency assessments throughout the onboarding program.
  • Collaborate with Surgical Services leadership, HR, and Clinical Education to align program outcomes with staffing and quality goals.
  • Serve as a role model and clinical resource, promoting a culture of learning, safety, and professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Current RN license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; MSN or advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of recent perioperative nursing experience, pediatric experience strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience as a clinical educator, preceptor, or in nursing professional development preferred.
  • Certification in Perioperative Nursing (CNOR) preferred.
  • BLS and PALS required (or within 30 days of hire).

Required Skills:

  • Strong communication, coaching, and teaching skills.
  • Passion for pediatric care and advancing clinical education.
  • Ability to engage diverse learners and adapt instruction to various experience levels.
  • Comfort with EHR, learning management systems, and simulation-based instruction.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in developing educational programs.
  • Knowledge of pediatric nursing practices.
