General Description

To assist students, parents, and RMA staff in understanding graduation requirements, preparing student personal graduation plans, and providing needed information to instructional and assessment staff to promote student success in the classroom.

Qualifications/Experience Requirements
  • A Masters degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Maintains a valid current certification as a guidance counselor, compliant with federal, state, or local regulations, including the No Child Left Behind Act.
  • At least three (3) years of successful teaching experience preferred but not required.
  • Understanding of state test procedures and prior testing experience.
  • Experience or training in working with at-risk students preferred.
  • Ability to work politely and effectively with parents, students, and staff.
Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Develop master schedule with the Counselor Coordinator and Principal.
  • Assist students and parents in course selection.
  • Maintain student records and confidentiality.
  • Support students in overcoming educational challenges and preventing dropout.
  • Help evaluate career interests and choices.
  • Coordinate state testing at the site.
  • Provide individual and group support for instructional difficulties.
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences as needed.
  • Be available outside instructional hours for educational purposes.
  • Assist with college and post-secondary applications, including recommendations and financial aid.
  • Refer students to external services when necessary.
  • Prepare and train personnel for State Assessments as per TEA guidelines.
  • Serve as EOC Coordinator and manage graduation plans and transcripts.
  • Participate in campus improvement and attendance teams.
  • Manage schedule changes and communicate graduation information.
  • Attend training on graduation requirements.
  • Serve as a campus school board member unless rated Unacceptable by the State.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Normal Working Hours and Days
  • Monday through Friday, during normal business hours.
