Join Our Team as a Casual Respiratory Therapist at UPMC Lock Haven!

Are you a dedicated Respiratory Therapist looking for a flexible and rewarding opportunity? UPMC Lock Haven is seeking a passionate and skilled individual to join our team on a casual basis. This role offers the chance to work rotating 8 and 12-hour shifts, with a minimum requirement of 36 hours per 6-week schedule, plus one major holiday per year.

*We will consider CRT, RRT, and all levels of the career ladder. The final title and pay will be determined by education experience and certifications.

About the Role:

As a Respiratory Therapist, you will provide essential respiratory therapy services and life support to patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies and abnormalities. Working under the general direction of a physician and by prescription, you will deliver high-quality care across all patient populations and service areas.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess patient conditions by reading prescriptions, measuring arterial blood gases, and reviewing patient information to determine treatment requirements.
  • Administer inhalants and medications, ensuring compatibility with physician's orders and observing necessary precautions.
  • Assist in transporting mechanically ventilated patients and respond to all code situations.
  • Maintain detailed patient charts and order repairs when needed.
  • Demonstrate respiratory care procedures to trainees and other healthcare personnel, and supervise students during training.
  • Set up and operate respiratory therapy equipment, ensuring optimal treatment parameters and safe, efficient function.
  • Evaluate medical orders and interpret clinical data to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Monitor patients' physiological responses to therapy and perform necessary procedures, including bronchopulmonary drainage and pulmonary function tests.
  • Consult with physicians in the event of adverse reactions.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Graduate of a CoARC (Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) approved Respiratory program.
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Maintenance of certification under NBRC requirements for those who received their RRT credential after July 1, 2002.
