If you are ready to be challenged in designing, optimizing, and revolutionizing water treatment systems, then take the next step in your career and apply today to be part of our dedicated team!WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING Serves as the lead operator, technical expert, trainer, and, when needed, shift manager for the operations of specific plant unit processes and sections, as assigned by the Division Director. As lead operator, the incumbent performs all necessary operations section duties while providing guidance and tasks to others. As technical expert, the incumbent evaluates operations of the assigned section and develops standard operating procedures. As trainer, the incumbent conducts one-on-one training as assigned. This position is specifically provided to support liquids process managers in their absence. This position encompasses Lead Operators assigned to Liquids Process and RS Filter Press Operations as defined by the Division Director. As such, this position may involve responsibility around the clock for a complete unit process area, or for a specific defined shift period. The incumbent is responsible for reviewing operations logs, data sheets, and meeting with assigned operators on all shifts on a regular basis. The Lead Operator issues instructions to assigned personnel. Shift assignments may vary. Work is performed under the direction and review of the Shift Manager, as assigned. Your work will be a critical component of UOSA's Vision to be globally recognized for its leadership in protecting the region's water resources. Actively works to identify equipment problems and process problems as soon as they occur. Technically Strong: Very knowledgeable with respect to wastewater treatment in general and highly knowledgeable regarding UOSA treatment facilities in particular to include the core liquids process, residuals and furnace operations. Proactive: Not satisfied with the status quo and continuously seeks to improve the performance of the section and the skill set of the team. Identifies what needs to be done, accurately identifies stakeholders and seeks input, takes actions, and communicates outcomes. RequirementsREQUIREMENTS •Completion of high school or a GED program is required. Progressively responsible work experience and completion of two (2) years of college, including specialized training in wastewater treatment, physical sciences, or engineering; or any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. •Possession of a Class II Wastewater Treatment Works Operator's License issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia or the ability to obtain one within one year. •Current certification as a FIS, equivalence as declared by the Division Director, or the ability to pass the written examination within one year is required. •Thorough knowledge of modern treatment plant operations equivalent or superior to that of the Senior Operator classification; ability to perform duties in every operation section; ability to train, review, troubleshoot, and coordinate operations; ability to act as a Team Manager or Team Leader as required. •Must be able to meet physical requirements of position to include extensive walking, bending, stooping, climbing of stairs and ladders, lifting and/or carrying up to 75 pounds •Possession of a vehicle operator's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. •Must be able to work extra hours as required to meet the needs of the plant, will be required to respond to adverse weather and other plant-related emergencies, requiring on-call duty and possible situations where he/she may have to work extra hours.
