Our New Hope Youth Center in New Hope, Michigan, provides trauma-informed short-term and long-term residential care for females ages 10-17 who have experienced abuse or neglect. We support youth who present with behavioral and mental health needs, offering a structured, therapeutic environment focused on individualized mental health services. Programming includes individual, family, and group therapy, life skills training, and educational services designed to help youth build a foundation for a successful and healthy future. The typical length of stay depends on the youth's progress toward individualized treatment goals and securing appropriate aftercare placement. Key Responsibilities The Shift Supervisor oversees facility operations and supervises direct care staff during assigned shifts. Responsibilities include supervision of personnel, monitoring youth activities, ensuring policy and safety compliance, and coordinating daily operations to promote a structured and safe environment.
- Supervise staff, assign duties, evaluate performance, and provide feedback
- Maintain communication with leadership regarding staff performance and issues
- Develop schedules, manage staff coverage, and oversee shift operations
- Coordinate youth appointments, transportation, and intake/discharge procedures
- Ensure compliance with state regulations, safety protocols, and behavior management systems
- Administer medication and maintain accurate documentation
- Monitor facility security through checks and searches
- Complete detailed reports on incidents, staffing, youth behavior, and maintenance needs
- Lead emergency response efforts during incidents such as fire or severe weather
Other Duties Include
- Maintain high standards of role model behavior for youth
- Participate in training and development activities as required
- Report incidents or concerns involving youth or staff
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements Education:
- High school diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred
Experience:
- Minimum three years working with youth in residential treatment, with behavioral health or substance abuse needs
- Supervisory experience preferred
Skills:
- First Aid/CPR (or ability to obtain)
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to interact with youth and stakeholders professionally
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and behavior management practices
Physical Demands:
- Must be in good health and able to participate in physical activities with youth
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and intervene physically if necessary
- Ability to transport youth and staff
Other:
- Valid driver's license with good driving record
- Must pass required background checks
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Ability to work extended or varied hours when needed
