Primary Work Address: 2033 Valley Life Sciences Building, Berkeley, CA, 94720-3140Current HHMI Employees, click here to apply via your Workday account. We currently have an opening for a Research Technician II in the lab of Dr. Barbara J. Meyer at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Meyer is a Genetics, Genomics, Evolution, and Development Professor in the Molecular and Cell Biology Department at University of California (UC), Berkeley, and an adjunct professor in the Biochemistry and Biophysics Department at UC, San Francisco's School of Medicine. The Meyer laboratory investigates mechanisms of cell-fate determination, genome editing, the role of chromosome structure and chromatin modification in gene regulation, and the molecular evolution of chromosome-wide mechanisms of gene control in the nematode C. elegans, with an emphasis on X-chromosome dosage compensation, which balances gene expression between XX hermaphrodites and XO males, and the specification of sexual fate. Previous work by Meyer's team also showed that X-chromosome gene regulation is functionally related to a challenge of all somatic and germline chromosomes: achieving proper structure prior to chromosome segregation, a topic they continue to investigate. Approaches include genetics, spatial genomics, single-molecule biophysics, super-resolution imaging, computational modeling, and structural studies including X-ray crystallography. More information can be found on their website: What We Provide:
