Responsibilities:

• Apply advanced understanding of chemical sensors and machine learning to develop and improve DoD chemical and biological detection and identification systems.
• Work as part of a government scientific team developing and updating these sensors and detectors.
• Provide subject matter expertise and lead/support team research efforts in chemical detection and identification.
• Support theoretical research of fundamental concepts and algorithm development.
• Plan and conduct research projects for chemical and/or biological point and remote detection and identification. Perform data analysis.
• Develop software applications in Python and apply machine learning techniques to improve the detection and identification of chemical and biological materials.
• Develop, test, train, and maintain applications for developmental sensors and instrumentation.
• Remain current on related subjects in the literature and news.
• Contribute to presentations, technical reports, and research publications.

Education: Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related discipline. MS acceptable with added experience.

Job Requirements:

• U.S. Citizen eligible for a security clearance.
• 4 years' research experience related to spectroscopic studies, sensors, signal processing, and/or hyperspectral imaging (coursework/research applies).
• 4 years' experience with Python coding and use of ML for research on sensors and related topics (coursework/research applies).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
• Demonstrated ability to learn new skills quickly, multitask, and complete work within schedule.

Bonus points if you have:

• Experience with both chemical and biological detection/identification.
