About the Role

Culmen International is seeking an experienced Research Scientist to join our team in Silver Springs, MD.

What You'll Do in Your New Role
  • Manage the Biochemistry Section within the DDR.
  • Assist in oversight of daily laboratory operations, including activities of technical staff and tracking of laboratory materials, reagents, and consumables.
  • Organize and participate in clinical and pre-clinical studies focusing on the conception, manufacturing, testing, and evaluation of enteric countermeasures.
  • Provide training on SOPs and SSPs supporting pre-clinical and clinical studies.
  • Contribute to data analysis and interpretation from assays.
  • Aid in developing and establishing new procedures to assess potency and composition related to enteric countermeasures. Contribute to writing reports, manuscripts, grant proposals, and presentations.
  • Lead and participate in lab meetings, department meetings, and journal club activities.
  • Assist in recruiting new personnel by collaborating with the contracting company.
  • Communicate with internal staff and external customers. Manage data collection, maintenance, analysis, and evaluation for grants, presentations, and publications.
  • Ensure timely completion and submission of all required reports.
Required Qualifications
  • PhD in chemistry.
  • At least 15 years of combined experience in protein biochemistry, gram-negative bacteria production, protein and lipopolysaccharide purification, and bioanalytics (e.g., surface plasmon resonance, LC-MS).
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in scientific team management and junior leadership.
  • Proficiency with Windows and Apple OS, Microsoft Office, statistical software (e.g., Prism), reference management systems (e.g., Endnote), and instrumentation software (e.g., MassLynx).
