Position Summary:

A Research Scientist position is available in the Department of Biochemistry ( immediately to investigate excitotoxicity as a manifestation of ferroptosis.

Specifically, the project will:

+ Delineate cellular connections between NMDA Receptor-mediated calcium flux and excitotoxic morbidity.

+ Examine the potential of small molecules to mitigate the pathologic neurochemistry that characterizes glutamate and iron-dependent cytotoxicity.

Minimum Qualifications:

+ PhD or similar degree in biomedical sciences.

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Demonstrated expertise in electrophysiology and NMDA receptor mechanisms

+ Expertise in transduction and/or viral infection methods for gene delivery in mammalian cells, and/or isolation of brain tissue and cells from mouse and/or rat models.
