Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) and three (3) years of full-time experience in clinical research, with two (2) years of this experience involving sponsored clinical trials. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) plus five (5) years of full-time clinical research experience, including two (2) years working with sponsored clinical trials, may be considered. Administrative and managerial experience with research projects and clinical trials involving external sponsors is required. Supervisory experience supervising research coordinators is also necessary. Experience with research protocols, budget preparation, and negotiations with sponsors is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four (4) or more years of full-time experience in clinical research involving sponsored clinical trials.

Brief Description of Duties:

The incumbent will oversee the daily operations of the Clinical Research Core, including developing, managing, and evaluating administrative and financial policies and procedures. Responsibilities include creating position descriptions, hiring, training, supervising staff, and conducting annual reviews. The role involves providing expertise, training, and mentorship to research staff such as Investigators and Study Coordinators. The manager will facilitate study start-up activities like budget development, contract negotiations, and administrative approvals, as well as managing financial aspects of industry-funded clinical trials across multiple departments. Establishing collaborative processes and shared resources among SUNY campuses is also part of the role. The position reports directly to the Associate Vice Dean for Research Operations at Stony Brook School of Medicine.

Duties include:

  • Setting strategic goals for the Clinical Research Core (CRC) for review by the Vice Dean for Research.
  • Supervising daily operations of the CRC.
  • Managing CRC staff, assigning work, ensuring quality assurance, conducting performance reviews, and managing time-off requests.
  • Ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Training and mentoring staff, including PIs, department administrators, and study coordinators.
  • Facilitating educational research training programs like the Coordinator Training and Mentorship Group (CTMS).
  • Setting annual fiscal goals and overseeing all financial aspects of the CRC, including monitoring cost centers, billing, recharges, purchasing, and expenditures.
  • Developing budgets and negotiating terms for industry-funded clinical trials.
  • Negotiating payment terms with sponsors.
  • Managing the Clinical Conductor CTMS, including study creation, budget negotiation, user training, technical support, and financial reporting.
  • Additional responsibilities:

    • Overseeing regulatory compliance, including IRB submissions and ClinicalTrials.gov entries.
    • Managing day-to-day study activities such as patient recruitment, consent, visits, sample handling, and data entry.
    • Preparing documents, figures, and tables for presentations, Data and Safety Monitoring Board meetings, and audits.
    • Performing other duties as assigned.
