Position Responsibilities

Position Summary

The University of Idahos Department of Curriculum & Instruction and the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences are pleased to announce the availability of a full-time 9-month non-tenure track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in STEM Education. Rank is negotiable based on how the candidate meets the criteria outlined in the department and college bylaws. We aim to recruit a dynamic individual who will independently lead a highly specialized or multifaceted research program, based on seeking and obtaining externally funded projects in STEM Education. Individuals will actively pursue submissions of proposals for externally sponsored funding and are expected to serve as the principal investigator on sponsored projects. The ideal candidate would maintain active research collaborations internal and external to the university, with the purpose of increasing the quantity and quality of funded proposals in the college. Summer contract to be negotiated annually with the Department Chair/Dean. This position has a flexible work location, and the candidate has the option of working remotely with a few required in-person events such as new faculty orientation and select college-level meetings. Duties may include:

  • Selecting, developing, and managing an independent research portfolio related to STEM Education or one or more of the discipline areas in STEM Education
  • Coordinating teams and submitting for external sponsored funding
  • Serving in leadership positions on externally funded projects
  • Supporting efforts to increase quantity and quality of externally funded proposals submitted and obtained in EHHS
  • Working with EHHS faculty, Department Grants Administrators, the Office of Sponsored Projects, and Office of Research and Economic Development to increase funding in the EHHS
  • Performing complex scientific analyses (quantitative or qualitative)
  • Writing and publishing peer reviewed publications or presentations
  • Technical project management including developing the scope of work, budgeting, scheduling, reporting, implementing field projects, and approving scientific documents
  • Coordinating efforts between EHHS and other colleges with disciplinary-specific faculty
  • Provide evaluative support on proposals internal and external to EHHS
  • Other duties as assigned

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences at University of Idaho leads and delivers exceptional hands-on experience for students seeking their undergraduate and graduate degrees and/or certification in education.

Faculty members are committed to providing students with educational programs that are based on the latest research, as they are active researchers and leaders in education. Undergraduate and graduate classes are delivered on the Moscow campus, Coeur dAlene and Boise centers, in Twin Falls, as well as extensive online instruction that serves students all over the world.

Administrative Summary

This faculty appointment is contingent on funding and/or work to support the position. Employee acknowledges and agrees that in the event of insufficient funding and/or work, as determined by University in its sole discretion, University may: (1) change this Agreement by adjusting the employees FTE and annual salary throughout the contract year; or (2) terminate this Agreement and employees employment prior to the end of the term of appointment, upon 60 days written notice. Employee further acknowledges and agrees that in the event termination for insufficient funding and/or work becomes necessary, the notice provisions of Faculty Staff Handbook 3900B will not apply.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Degree Required

Minimum Education/Degree Required Listed degree qualification is required at time of hire.

Required Qualifications

  • Ed.D or Ph.D. in STEM Education, Science Education, Technology Education, Engineering Education, Mathematics Education, or a related field
  • 5 years of research experience beyond receipt of doctoral degree
  • 3 years of experience managing and conducting significant original research (PI) or serving as senior collaborator on a multi-scholar research initiative (Co-PI or Senior Personnel)
  • Demonstrated record of ongoing research achievement, including participation in the development and submission of sponsored project proposals
  • Demonstrated record of leading peer-reviewed publications in STEM Education or related fields
Preferred Qualifications

PI on externally funded projects from the National Science Foundation, Department of Education, Institute of Education Sciences, National Institute of Health, or other related federally funded agency
