Job Type: Officer of Administration

Position Summary: The Research Assistant will join the Migration and Nutrition Epidemiology team to work primarily on the CAMINANDO MH study. The duties include recruiting study participants, coordinating interviews and collecting data from study participants as well as training student research assistants involved in collecting data and conducting interviews. The incumbent will help coordinate the weekly meetings with the data collection research team, and will assist in regular communication with Legal service providers and community based organizations. The research assistant will participate in communication with other key investigators of the study as well as with the IRB. The incumbent is experienced in the administration of the NIH toolbox Cognitive and emotional Battery. The incumbent will be fully trained to participate as a member of the primary assessment team. The incumbent will also assist in organizing the quarterly meetings of the advisory boards (community and scientific). The research assistant will assist in data entry, working closely with the project coordinators and data manager and will assist in preparation of materials for publication, presentation, submission to conferences, and for meetings with community organizations, legal service providers, and advisory board members. The research assistant must be available to work flexible hours (can include early evenings, Saturdays, school holidays) to accommodate schedules of study participants, as well as being comfortable to occasionally travel to New Jersey and Long Island to assist with interviews.

Responsibilities:

  • 70% Data Collection, interviewing participants
  • 10% Data entry and data analysis
  • 5% Study coordination and other related administrative tasks
  • 5% Instrument revision/New study implementation
  • Assisting with presentations and progress reports, IRB communication

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree
  • Bilingual English/Spanish; Spanish should be native level

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with epidemiologic studies
  • Ability to use a relational database, Microsoft Access
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills in both Spanish and English
  • Master's Degree in Public Health or Master's degree in Psychology, Sociology or Anthropology with 1 year of research experience
  • Data Entry and Data Analysis Experience
  • One-year experience including data entry, qualitative interviewing and epidemiologic study assessments
  • Experience interacting with adolescents
