OVERVIEW: The Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University is a federally funded center with exemplary elementary and secondary education programs for deaf and hard of hearing students and is tasked with developing and disseminating innovative curricula, instructional techniques, and products nationwide while providing information, training, and technical assistance for parents and professionals to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students from birth to age 21.Job Title: Research AssistantWorker Type:Fixed Term (Fixed Term)Pay Type:HourlyExempt Status:NoCompensation Grade (Track/Level):TWHiring Range (Commensurate with experience and qualifications):Salary Ranges (All Compensation Grades):Clerc CenterSupervisory Organization (Department):Monitoring, Evaluation and Research - JMSummary:The Monitoring, Evaluation, and Research team at the Clerc Center is seeking a motivated and experienced research assistant who is responsible, organized, and flexible. This role involves working collaboratively with a team dedicated to working with people from varied backgrounds. The research assistant will support multi-year projects, including supporting project and research logistics, collecting input from traditionally underserved groups*, participating in data analysis, engaging with stakeholders, and sharing findings.Job Description: Primary Responsibilities:
  • Assists with notetaking of meetings where the primary communication mode is American Sign Language, but may include interpreters for English and other languages
  • Provides support with project and research logistics
  • Transcribes videos of project meetings
  • Assists with research design, data collection, data analysis, and information dissemination
  • Performs miscellaneous clerical and project-related tasks as needed
Qualifications:
  • Must have at least a BA degree
  • Has satisfactorily completed at least one research method course
  • Has experience working on a research project
  • Has familiarity with working with people of varied backgrounds, especially those who are members of underrepresented communities.

Employment Information:
  • Employment dates are from September 1, 2025 - August 31, 2026
  • The position is expected to report to work on campus. However, there may be opportunities for a hybrid work schedule based on performance and the needs of the department or the University.
  • All employees hired must undergo and pay for a background investigation if selected for the job and must be cleared before starting first day on the job. Current fee for the investigation is $35.50 and can range up to $135 depending on the state.
  • Background Check and Gallaudet Student Conduct Office Records must be in a good standing
  • Compensation: up to $22.00 per hour / 15-20 hours per week commensurate with experience.
