About this Role:

The Accountant I Specialist will be responsible for managing and processing daily cash receipts for the department, including deposits of Third Party Liability Recovery Division (TPLRD) funds, Revolving Funds, and State checks through remote deposit to Bank of America. They will ensure accurate coding and posting of receipts to the Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal), distribute supporting documentation, maintain dishonored check logs, process fund replenishments, and oversee the Franchise Tax Board (FTB) Intercept Program. Additionally, the employee will reconcile monthly financial reports, research and correct cash transactions, and assist with updating procedures to improve unit efficiency.

The incumbent's work ensures timely and accurate deposit and reconciliation of state funds, which is critical to maintaining the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the department. By coordinating with various programs and accounting units, resolving discrepancies, and implementing improvements, the employee supports compliance with state accounting practices and enhances the overall effectiveness of the Cash Receipts Unit in meeting the financial objectives of the division.

This position is located in East End Complex (EEC) across the street from the California State Capitol Park and the Rose Garden. The EEC is walking distance to public transportation and near various eateries.

The Fiscal Program's Financial Management Division (FMD) works to accomplish DHCS's mission through fiscal integrity, transparency, and accountability of approximately $166.3 billion annually. This is accomplished by overseeing the financial operations of DHCS, including financial reporting, resource management, and budget development and oversight. FMD provides guidance and consultation to programs on funding needs, expenditures, including contracts and purchasing, and audit support, while ensuring funds are accurately reported.
