SUMMARY: The Reliability Electrical Engineer / Project Manager is a hybrid position that combines deep technical expertise in electrical systems with comprehensive project leadership. This role is responsible for the design, optimization, and maintenance of electrical infrastructure while also managing multi-disciplinary projects from conception through execution. The incumbent serves as the subject matter expert (SME) for electrical engineering across the organization and oversees site-level projects to ensure alignment with safety, environmental, and profitability goals.RESPONSIBILITIES: Electrical Engineering Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, specification, and implementation of electrical systems (480V to 230kV), including motors, relays, generators, transformers, and switchgear.
- Conduct troubleshooting and root cause analysis to resolve complex electrical issues and improve reliability.
- Perform and interpret electrical system studies such as load flow, short circuit, arc flash, transient stability, and relay coordination.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and electrical area classification standards (API, NFPA, NEC, NETA).
- Support commissioning and startup of new systems and upgrades in collaboration with maintenance teams.
- Stay current with and apply industry standards, internal engineering practices, and codes in all work.
Project Management Responsibilities:
- Plan, execute, and manage site-level capital and maintenance projects, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget targets are met.
- Develop and manage project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, risk assessments, and contractor oversight.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams including operations, maintenance, engineering, procurement, and external vendors.
- Prepare Design Basis Documents, technical specifications, and project documentation.
- Lead project review meetings and provide regular status updates to stakeholders.
- Ensure quality control across engineering and construction phases through oversight and alignment with project specifications.

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering within chemical, petrochemical or refining industry preferred.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer-sponsored visa now or in the future.
- Demonstrated experience in managing engineering projects from start to finish.
- Strong understanding of electrical system safety, design standards, and risk assessment.
- Proficiency in power system modeling tools (SKM).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred:
- PMP Certification or formal training in project management methodologies.
- Experience with Engineering Quality Assurance practices and contractor oversight.
- Active participation in technical communities or forums.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to move from place to place to all areas of production. Must be able to wear all required safety equipment. Must be able to push/pull up to 25 lbs., lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted, bend, stoop, and kneel. Must be able to wear all required PPE and perform field work, including in refining environments.WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work environment varies from a office, plant production and outside climate conditions, based on the situation. The noise level varies depending on which area of production the employee is working in.NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: Days/M-F. The hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management. Occasional changes in schedule may be required as special circumstances arise.
