A Day in the Life

The Surgical Health Economics, Policy, and Reimbursement (HEPR) Director leads the development and execution of strategies to achieve market access and demonstrate therapy value to expand patient access to Medtronic Surgical therapies in the US and globally. The Surgical HEPR Director reports to the Sr. Director, HEPR, Surgical.

This role supports global reimbursement strategy development, new business development, evidence planning, and product launch support for therapies in the Digital Technologies and Robotic Technologies businesses. The individual will understand and communicate global clinical and economic evidence requirements for market access and sustainable payments, developing global and geography-specific reimbursement strategies, including coding, coverage, and payment considerations.

The position collaborates with regional and local reimbursement and market access colleagues (including US) to support establishing and maintaining reimbursement in target geographies, executing strategic plans, and developing evidence strategies with global and European teams. The role is based in Minneapolis, MN; Boston, MA; North Haven, CT; or Lafayette, CO.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Managing and guiding the Surgical HEPR team on reimbursement strategies aligned with business priorities.
  • Creating and executing market access strategies integrating reimbursement, health technology assessment, evidence review, pricing, and economic modeling.
  • Designing and implementing approaches to the payer value proposition throughout product lifecycle.
  • Representing HEPR in product development to address reimbursement and evidence needs early.
  • Collaborating with Clinical Research, Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Marketing, and other functions to address HEPR topics comprehensively.
  • Communicating therapy attributes to external stakeholders to maximize market uptake.
  • Engaging with payers and stakeholders to ensure fair reimbursement systems.
  • Developing strategic studies to impact reimbursement and market access positively.
  • Partnering with HEOR teams to develop evidence for therapies and market positioning.
  • Educating hospital and physician customers about reimbursement options.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 10 years relevant experience, with 7+ years managerial experience, or an advanced degree with 8+ years relevant experience and 7+ years managerial experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's in health policy, economics, or related fields; Master's preferred.
  • Strong influence management and cross-organizational leadership skills.
  • Experience in international reimbursement, coding, coverage, and health economics.
  • Medical device or pharmaceutical industry health policy/reimbursement experience.
