City/State Charlottesville, VAWork Shift First (Days)Overview:Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse Unit Coordinator for the Main OR in Charlottesville, VA. This is a full time, first shift position from 645A-315P with occasional call for PTO coverage. Ideal candidates will have Scrub, Circulation, or Procedural experience in sterile fields.Call: 1 to 2 shifts per 6 weeks schedule on average.Department Information:Performing an average of 7,000 cases each year, the Operating Room at SMJH has 8 OR suites and offers a variety of service lines including; Complex GYN, Neurosurgery, Vascular/Thoracic and Orthopedic surgery. It is also the 2nd highest-performing OR in the Sentara system for Orthopedic total joint procedures.

The Unit Coordinator d emonstrates proficiency in nursing practice for assigned specialty area and provides clinical leadership for the delivery of nursing care in a department. Under the direction of the department manager leads safety and quality initiatives, focuses on and simplifies workflow, and contributes to the development of staff. Increase staff satisfaction and promotes excellent (Gold Standard) customer service. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Complex GYN, Vascular and Roboticservice lines.
  • Coordinate service line instruments & equipment purchase needs.
  • Provide service line education.
  • Participate in staff interviews.
  • Ensure all rooms with your specialty are ready for the day.
  • Quarterly meeting w/manager & director in reference to service line project/process updates.
  • Review used pick tickets for changes and give to CC tech or Charge Auditor for changes.
  • Work with vendors & materials management to ensure needed items & identify cost reduction opportunities.
  • Check expirations dates on specialty carts/ areas not stocked by materials.
  • Support precepting of staff to service line.
  • Collaborate/ work with surgeons in service line.
  • Support/ facilitate change.
  • Provide input for EPRs
  • Eliminate unused product/items/equipment.
  • Keep service line equipment in good working order and organized.
  • Work with CSS on instrument set needs/ condensing of trays and changes to reduce cost.
  • Submit and follow work orders as needed on equipment used in your service line.
  • Review surgery schedule in advance to identify potential equipment/instrument conflicts or supply/implant issues.
Education
  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN (required)
  • MSN (Preferred)
Certification/Licensure
  • Registered nursing License (Required)
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire
  • Professional Specialty Nursing Certification (CNOR) preferred.
Experience
  • 18 Months of acute care RN experience(required)
  • Scrub and circulator experience in an OR.
  • Candidates who have completed a PeriOp 101 program preferred
  • Candidates who have previous Operating Room Experience
  • Manages complex cases in fast-paced environments
  • Communication with patients and providers
