This position is .8 FTE, Straight Nights. Schedule includes 8-hour shifts M-F. 12-hour shifts Saturday & Sunday, every third weekend rotation.

This position exists to administer family-centered nursing care to patients, advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention, and/or provide skilled assistance in navigation of the health care system as appropriate to the developmental, cultural, emotional, and medical, surgical, or rehabilitative needs of the patient and their families.

Specific duties are determined by the work setting or patient population served; however, in all positions, serving patients with challenging and complex conditions requires a concentration of specialized staff able to work in highly coordinated teams. We organize care around each patient's condition which requires staff at multiple levels and across many departments to exhibit exceptional teamwork qualities including communicating efficiently and effectively and adopting the behaviors required for high functioning integrated teams.

An RN position in Gillette Children's Neurosciences Unit involves providing specialized care to pediatric patients (ages 0-17) with complex brain and spine conditions. Nurses in this unit care for children and teens recovering from neurosurgery, managing epilepsy or seizures, and dealing with trauma that affects the brain, bones, or organs. The unit also treats patients with respiratory illnesses, feeding intolerance, and infections. RNs will support neurodiagnostic tests like video electroencephalograms, assist with ketogenic diet initiation, and provide care for patients after traumatic injuries. This role requires expertise in neurological care, strong clinical skills, and a compassionate, family-centered approach.

Compensation & Benefits Information

The hourly wage for this opportunity is $41.40-$69.02. Pay is dependent on several factors including number of hours worked within the field, education, and certification/licensure: $1.75 weekend/ $2.35 evening/ $4.00 night differential is available for this position. Hourly pay is just one part of the compensation package for employees.   • Seeks opportunity to evaluate effectiveness of health education as culturally and developmentally appropriate.

Autonomous Practice – Exercises independent judgment that influences care and demonstrates understanding of potential clinical implications.

  • Supervises, delegates, and provides care based on the abilities and limitations of care personnel and patient acuity.

  • Identifies and incorporates evidence-based improvements into own daily work.

Procedures and Policies –Identifies, interprets, and implements organizational policies and procedures according to regulations, professional and community standards.

  • Protects the confidentiality of personal health information.

Active Engagement – Actively represents the department in committees, task forces, unit activities or other work groups and disseminates information and decisions to colleagues and peers using the Engaged Professional Practice Model.

  • Attend a minimum of 75% of department staff meetings and committee meetings.

  • Demonstrates meaningful contributions to the productivity of the professional environment of the department.

  • Supports work of Nursing Collaborative Governance initiatives.

Professional Development and Quality Improvement - Participates in activities that promote professional growth, ease of access, quality improvement and patient satisfaction.

Qualifications

Required

  • Documentation of completion of professional nursing program (RN program)

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license through the MN Board of Nursing

  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. If candidate holds valid CPR for through another acceptable organization (as determined by Gillette), candidate may be able to begin employment but must complete Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association within one month of employment.

  • Must be interested in working with people with short term or long-term disabilities that begin in childhood

  • Physically able to work hours required and meet physical demands of the position. In certain departments, this will include being part of the off-premise call schedule.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or other healthcare related field

  • Prior nursing experience in a health-related setting

  • Nursing Specialty Certification relevant to the position
