General Job SummaryUnder the supervision of the Director, Organ Recovery and Clinical Manager, Organ Recovery,the Referral Triage Coordinator is responsible for maximizing the organ referral and evaluation process. The Referral Triage Coordinator is responsible for initial evaluation of organ referrals for suitability and works in conjunction with the Administrator on Call to dispatch teams accordingly in response to all new and existing organ referrals and organ donors with onsite needs.The Referral Triage Coordinator must be available to work a rotating day/night shift. The shifts will consist of seven, 12-hour shifts in a two-week period. Shifts are 0600-1800 and 1800-0600.Education And Experience
- Associate's degree with at least 2+ years' experience in emergency or critical care setting, such as EMT-P, RN, LPN, RT or previous OPO experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Facilitates the donation process through coordination and communication of referral information and logistics. Appropriately routes all donor referrals and requests from hospital partners.
- Evaluates organ donor referrals by phone and EMR review, engaging the Administrator on Call and Medical Director, as needed, to determine medical suitability and triage the referral to the appropriate staff members.
- Collaborates with other departments such as Clinical Recovery Coordinators, Donation Services Technician, Family Services Coordinators and Hospital Services to ensure all necessary personnel are dispatched to appropriate hospitals at the appropriate time to support Infinite Legacy activity.
- Evaluates medical suitability of potential organ donors by utilizing information from medical records, personal histories, physical examination and current health status. Transcribes health information into electronic medical records.
- Requests and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests needed for evaluation of suitability and clinical management of potential donors.
- Participates in training, process improvement, departmental activities and special projects as directed.
- Attends all scheduled clinical meeting days and mandatory training sessions.
- Maintains compliance with documentation, Standard Operating Procedures and TrainCaster.
- All other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
- Possible mental and visual fatigue associated with detail work in completion of forms and use of a computer screen.
- Occasional need to transfer organs, blood specimens and/or tissue samples from one location to another within the office building.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate telephones and computers.
- Ability to accurately communicate, converse and exchange information in English over the telephone and in person.
- Computer literacy in a Microsoft Windows environment and demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office software programs.
- Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials and pharmacological agents, with little likelihood of harm if established health precautions are followed.
- May require extended hours of sitting. May also require some physical effort lifting, pushing and pulling supplies, equipment and carts with little likelihood for injury if proper body mechanics and procedures are followed only as needed to assist.
- This position is Level 2 – Minimal level of exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens and TB. Employees may at times be in a hospital setting and may have exposure to packaged organs and tissues for transplant and/or research.
