Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and coordinate engaging recreation activities that promote functional leisure skills and education. Conduct interviews to assess clients' interests and barriers, monitor progress, and recommend necessary program modifications.
  • Collaborate with physicians and the rehabilitation team to set therapeutic recreation goals and coordinate activities during care planning meetings.
  • Establish connections with community service organizations to enhance recreational program resources and serve as a liaison for community activities.
  • Design community reintegration activities tailored to the physical and cognitive needs of clients, helping them understand and manage their limitations during leisure activities.
  • Provide training for clients and relevant support personnel, documenting the effectiveness of training sessions.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations to identify clients' needs and set measurable objectives in conjunction with the rehabilitation team, adjusting treatments to optimize outcomes.
  • Apply professional knowledge and skills to resolve problems and meet individualized goals for service recipients.
  • Regularly report progress to the rehabilitation team, clients, and families.
  • Document any changes in clients' conditions and communicate these updates to the team, including the Clinical Coordinator and attending physician.
  • Ensure compliance with treatment documentation as specified in the Plan of Treatment.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, contributing insights and treatment strategies, and attending family educational sessions.
  • Develop, teach, and assess treatment plans while guiding assistants and nursing staff in executing those plans.
  • Uphold the highest standards of professional conduct, safeguarding client confidentiality and information sharing.
  • Collect and document essential items for thorough program evaluation and improvement.
  • Engage in internal staff development programs and pursue ongoing education to maintain and enhance clinical practice skills.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary to meet the needs of clients and programs.

Qualifications

  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is required.
  • Must complete all required pre-employment evaluations as outlined in company policy.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation Therapy or equivalent experience, along with a mandatory minimum of two years in therapeutic therapy roles.
  • Understanding of complex neurological injury and orthopedic rehabilitation techniques, with a commitment to obtain National Therapeutic Recreation Specialist certification within the first year of employment. Maintain required state licensure and/or certification.
  • Effective communication skills are critical.
