Salary: $35.98 Hourly Location : City of Waukesha -PARK-REC & Forestry - 1900 Aviation Drive Waukesha, WI Job Type: Full Time Job Number: 25-00739 Department: Parks, Recreation and Forestry Opening Date: 08/05/2025 Closing Date: 8/24/2025 11:59 PM Central This is an administrative position that is responsible for managing a broad range of recreational and educational programs and activities for the community, under the general direction of the Recreation Services Manager; the position is responsible for developing, coordinating, planning and supervising programs, policies, facilities and employees to staff the programs and activities. Title: Recreation Supervisor - Aquatics, Fitness & Community Engagement Department: Waukesha Parks, Recreation & Forestry Reports To: Recreation Services Manager Wage: $35.9874 per hour ($74,853.75 annually) Initial Interviews: September 8 and/or September 9, 2025 Tentative Start Date: October 14, 2025 Essential Job Functions The job functions listed herein are neither exclusive nor exhaustive but are intended to be illustrative of the types of tasks the employee will most likely be expected to perform on a regular basis.   • Plans, implements, supervises, and evaluates a variety of recreational, educational, and wellness programs, camps, leagues, and special events for all ages.
  • Develops program goals, budgets, marketing strategies, and staffing plans; recruits, trains, and evaluates instructors, supervisors, volunteers, and interns.
  • Recruits, trains, supervise, and evaluates recreation leaders, program supervisors, instructors, volunteers, and interns; promotes effective working relationships and a positive working environment
  • Conducts needs assessments, prepares reports, and recommends improvements to enhance service quality and cost-efficiency.
  • Promotes programs through marketing efforts, community presentations, and partnerships; establishes and maintains strong relationships with local organizations.
  • Prepares budget estimates, grant and sponsorship proposals, and procurement specifications for program supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains records related to personnel, programs, services, and equipment; monitors program compliance with department safety policies and risk management procedures.
  • Assists with departmental strategic planning and policy development, including safety manuals and emergency action plans.
  • Conducts site inspections to ensure facilities are safe and staff are adhering to policies.
  • Provides outstanding customer service and supports responsive community engagement.
  • Participates in professional development and serves weekend on-call duties as scheduled.
Aquatics, Fitness & Community Engagement:
  • Oversees the planning, staffing, and delivery of aquatics operations (pools), fitness classes, and enrichment programs for participants of all ages, including active older adults.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and national safety standards through the implementation of robust staff training, emergency preparedness, and risk management practices.
  • Administers pickleball programming and provides leadership for operations at the Schuetze Recreation Center, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all users.
  • Oversees the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Senior Services grant and provides direct supervision of the Senior Activity Coordinator to ensure alignment with program goals and funding requirements
  • Necessary Special Requirements
    • Must hold or obtain American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification within twelve months of hire.
Youth Development:
  • Oversees all elements of youth and family programs, including before- and after-school recreation, adaptive recreation, day camps, and enrichment programs.
  • Oversees all aspects of the 21st Century Community Learning Center (CLC) program, supported through the Department of Public Instruction, including the application and management of related grants.
  • Oversees all components of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, supported by Waukesha County, including the application and management of grants. (E.g.: Adaptive and Swim and Play Program).
  • Supervises program planning, family outreach, and program operations to ensure inclusive and high-quality experiences for participants.
Sports:
  • Oversees the full scope of youth and adult athletic programming, including leagues, tournaments, camps, and instructional classes, with a focus on skill development, sportsmanship, and community building.
  • Leads the recruitment, training, and supervision of part-time staff, referees, scorekeepers, and concessions personnel to ensure professional, safe, and customer-focused service delivery.
  • Develops and maintains partnerships with contracted service providers, and ensures all programs align with department standards for safety, facility use, and participant experience.
  • Necessary Special Requirements
  • Must hold or obtain American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor certification within twelve months of hire
  • Must hold or obtain ServSafe certification within twelve months of hire
Special Events:
  • Oversees the strategic planning, development, and execution of community-wide and program-specific special events, aligning initiatives with departmental goals and community priorities.
  • Leads cross-departmental coordination of logistics, permitting, contracts, risk management, safety, and site utilization, fostering collaboration with city leadership and key community stakeholders.
  • Directs ongoing evaluation and enhancement of events, using performance metrics and stakeholder feedback to optimize community engagement, expand outreach, and elevate event quality.
  • Identifies, procures, and oversees a diverse portfolio of vendors, managing relationships, contracts, and performance to ensure quality and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Necessary Special Requirements
    • Holds City of Waukesha Bartenders License for all City Special Events.
    • Must hold or obtain ServSafe certification within twelve months of hire

  • Requirements of Work Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation/Parks Management, Education, Business or a closely related field, supplemented by at least 4 years of progressively responsible experience in the planning, developing and delivery of recreation services at an administrative level; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills: Knowledge of
    • Methods and techniques in planning, promoting, developing and supervising recreation programs and activities.
    • The theory and philosophy of recreation and its relationship to other aspects of community life.
    • Group dynamics and effective communication styles and techniques.
    • State and federal laws related to personnel management and human resources issues.
    • The use of standard office equipment, computers and relevant software programs.
    • Business English (spelling, grammar, punctuation, tone).
    Ability to
    • Organize and facilitate recreation programs and projects.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City departments, coworkers, media, and the general public.
    • Establish and maintain positive relations with community groups, contracted service organizations and the general public.
    • Assess the recreation needs of the community and develop, implement, and supervise programs, activities and services to meet those needs.

    Necessary Special Requirements Valid Wisconsin driver's license; ability to pass a criminal background check; CPR/First Aid certification within 6 months of employment; Food Safety Manager required or ability to obtain within twelve months of employment; Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification desired.
