Salary : $56,047.53 - $89,676.04 Annually Location : Village of North Palm Beach (Parks and Recreation), FL Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: CY202500027 Department: Parks and Recreation Opening Date: 05/30/2025 Closing Date: Continuous FLSA: Non-Exempt Job Description The Recreation Supervisor is responsible for the oversight and supervision of a recreational facility or a specialized recreational program/service, which includes planning and coordinating activities with other departments, groups, and private/public entities and directing full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff members to accomplish assigned tasks. In addition, the Supervisor assists with all major functions related to the overall organization and administration of the Village's park and recreational delivery system. Essential Functions
  • Supervises all operational and maintenance functions at a recreational facility and/or within a specific recreational program/function and adheres to all relevant policies and procedures in terms of safety, discipline and employment practices.
  • Assists in the interviewing, selection, training, and evaluation of staff members, athletic/sports officials, interns, coaches and volunteers and may include fee negotiations/arrangements with contracted employees.
  • Plans, organizes, coordinates and instructs a variety of recreational activities and programs.
  • Ensures all proper accounting and banking procedures are followed when processing cash/check/POS transactions associated with memberships, course registrations, etc.
  • Uses RecTrac to implement all set up for classes, trips, sports leagues, etc.
  • Prepares and maintains all forms, reports and records required for the accountability and evaluation of programs and services.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with program participants, community and neighborhood groups, volunteers, other employees and the public at large.
  • Develops and promotes community participation and interest in recreational activities through an active public relations/marketing program which includes dissemination of publications, flyers, and other promotional literature and recruitment of dynamic instructors and responsive service providers/vendors.
  • Facilitates professional development among staff and provides the necessary resources and opportunities to subordinates to support them in the attainment of their goals and objectives.
  • Processes purchase requisitions, takes regular inventory and controls use and disbursement of equipment and supplies.
  • Prepares/submits budget information at regular intervals and closely monitors operating budget revenues and expenses to ensure compliance with established fiscal parameters.
  • Manages special projects and keeps abreast of the latest developments and issues impacting recreation and leisure services on a local, state and national level.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university with relevant course work in recreation, sports management, physical education, public administration, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of previous work experience in an organized recreational setting (municipal or other government-related setting preferred) to include some supervisory or lead work responsibilities. (Advanced degree and/or significant coaching or officiating experience may be substituted for all or some of the work experience requirement.)
  • Professional certification in the area of assignment as recognized by the National Recreation and Parks Association or other comparable nationally recognized organization preferred.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR/AED certificate at the adult and child levels or must obtain within six (6) months of hire.
  • Considerable knowledge of recreational programming and/or a specialized area of recreation related to job assignment (e.g., tennis, dance, athletics, aquatics, seasonal camps, etc.).
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and philosophy of recreational and leisure services and programs.
  • Knowledge of current computing technologies and software applications appropriate to the position's job responsibilities.
  • Evidence of effective oral and written communication skills in conjunction with strong organizational and customer service skills.
Physical/Environmental RequirementsPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching and may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/ or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). Some tasks may require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of heavier objects. ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS The employee is regularly exposed to outside climate conditions and subject to unpleasant atmospheric elements such as heat, humidity, inclement weather. Some tasks include working in and around moving vehicles and associated vehicle/equipment areas, where heightened awareness to surroundings and observance of established safety precautions contribute to the prevention of injuries/accidents.
