Forest Ridge Park is seeking enthusiastic Program Instructors to lead a variety of outdoor and nature-based programs to the public. Forest Ridge Park aims to offer a range of programs that enhance our amenities, as well as provide a greater appreciation for outdoor recreation, sport, and the natural environment. Forest Ridge contains approximately 600 acres of forested park with hiking and mountain biking trail systems, a welcome center, picnic shelters, a fishing area, and a playground with restroom facilities. Successful candidates will work with management and operational staff to coordinate program setup, delivery, and reporting. Programs that are currently or previously offered include, but are not limited to, paddling, mountain biking, wilderness skills, fishing, bike maintenance, and hiking.

Duties and Responsibilities

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of outdoor environments and willingness to work in those environments.
  • Understand the value of outdoor recreation programs for members of the community.
  • Specific knowledge related to outdoor recreation sport and/or the natural world

Skills:

  • Facilitate recreational or educational programs to a wide range of audiences, including youth, teens, and adults, and various skill levels.
  • Organizational skills related to program delivery, including program planning, equipment management, and reporting.
  • Offer customer support to patrons in a multitude of situations, including program registration processes, emergency management, introduction to park amenities, and program offerings.

Abilities:

  • Able to manage groups of various sizes, ages, and levels.
  • Able to problem solve and perform conflict resolution, resulting in positive outcomes.
Typical Qualifications

Candidates for this position must be at least 18 years of age. Experience working in a customer service setting is preferred. A candidate should possess excellent verbal skills, be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds of force, and comfortable leading groups. Applicants with experience in leading recreational or educational programs and/or experience in outdoor recreation including biking, hiking, or team building facilitation, nature education, and fishing are encouraged to apply.

Additional Information

This is a flexible scheduled position. Scheduling will vary in accordance with program offerings but may include some weekend, holiday, or some evening hours.
