Salary : $61,198.00 - $71,998.00 Annually Location : Great Falls, MT Job Type: Regular Full Time Job Number: 25-00075 Department: Parks and Recreation Division: Recreation Center Opening Date: 07/24/2025 Closing Date: 8/10/2025 11:00 PM Mountain Union Classification: Non-Union Nature of Work The Recreation Facility and Fitness Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of all internal and external rentals, marketing, and memberships for the Scheels Aim High Big Sky Aquatic and Recreation Center. This position will collaborate on classes, community education and special events with co-workers and management as well as administer a comprehensive group fitness program and coordinate fitness related special events. This position will lead and supervise fitness classes in the facility. Work is performed under the general direction of the Deputy Director of Parks & Recreation. Essential Functions of Work
  • Actively markets recreation center activities by developing and monitoring customer service satisfaction surveys. Prepares news releases, posts department events on social media sites, and creates the monthly newsletter, marketing materials, brochures, annual report and flyers.
  • Creates, implements and supervises the day-to-day schedule of fitness classes, workshops and clinics offered in the Scheels Aim Big Sky Aquatics and Recreation Center.

  • Creates, implements and supervises the day-to-day schedule of fitness classes, workshops and clinics offered in the Scheels Aim Big Sky Aquatics and Recreation Center.
  • Manages class and rental requests for facility spaces.
  • Cultivates relationships and partnerships with external organizations, other City of Great Falls departments, and the community.
  • Serves on large scale special event committees for established events, as well as, plans and executes new special events for Park and Recreation in conjunction with the Deputy Director.
  • Conducts daily audits of reservation workflow to ensure that each party in the process is completing their appropriate responsibilities.
  • Provides administrative support by greeting visitors, answering calls, responding to requests, researching general information, receiving payments, processing invoices, creating and reviewing budgets and expenditures, processing requests for services and researching accounts.
  • Assists in recruiting, training, supervising, directing, and evaluating performance of part time staff and volunteers. Collaborates with Deputy Director and Coordinators to effectively resolve customer service concerns and issues.
  • Provides ongoing feedback and recommendation on facility and operation enhancements.
  • Facilitates and participates in instructor training and mechanics for a variety of exercise class formats.
  • Assists in identifying, implementing and training of risk management initiatives. Ensures departmental compliance with all facility and City policy guidelines.
  • Monitors facility and surrounding area to ensure safe and proper conduct of patrons. Reports and/or corrects improper behavior.
  • Contracts and collaborates with physical therapy and personal trainers using the facility for medical requests.
  • Communicates equipment needs and purchasing requests to the Deputy Director for classes and individual fitness needs of members.
  • Collaborates with Deputy Director to evaluate and ensure compliance of national and state guidelines related to exercise science.
  • Collaborates with other coordinators on the recreation program guide for marketing purposes. Promotes fitness programming with social media and public outreach.
  • Maintains general order and cleanliness of the equipment and the facility. Reports issues to Deputy Director.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned and required.
Education and Experience
  • Education, training or experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Park and Tourism, Early Education, Business Management, Marketing or a related field is preferred.
  • Four year college degree in Exercise Science, Recreation, Leisure Services, or Physical Education or equivalent work experience of 5 years in the industry in similar role.
  • Two years of experience in marketing, program design, special events, preferred.
  • One year of experience in recreation center operations and recreation programming
  • One year of training in early childhood development, desired.
  • One year of teaching aerobics or programs preferred.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Employee must possess a valid Montana driver's license.
  • Primary group fitness certification from an accredited, national association (AFAA, ACE, ACSM, NASM, NETA, AEA).
  • CPR & First Aid certifications or ability to attain certifications within six (6) month of date of hire, and
  • Certified Park and Recreation Professional Certification, preferred.
Requirements of Work
  • Substantial knowledge of the customer service, marketing and scheduling and principles, practices, techniques and inclusion of recreation programming.
  • Substantial knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of dryland and water aerobics programming, sports and athletics including leagues and clinics.
  • Familiar with best practices for inclusive program participation for all ages and abilities.
  • Thorough knowledge of DaySmart software.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, assign, train and direct work of other employees.
  • Ability to train staff on software and required skill sets.
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service to all patrons, including over the phone and in person.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and resolve conflicts and crisis in a professional and calm manner.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY This position oversees customer service staff and fitness staff including fitness room attendants, fitness program and contract sports instructors as well as, other recreation center staff. Serves as point of contact when Recreation Manager is not on duty. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in varying environments including office, gym, weight room, parks and pools. While performing the duties of this position, employees may be exposed to long periods of time sitting or standing in a highly trafficked setting and occasionally working at a computer. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, crawl, twist, reach, ride and perform similar body movements. Must have the ability to perform moderate physical work and to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds at a time; the possession of hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate a computer, a motor vehicle; the ability to talkand hear in person or by telephone; and the ability to see and read instructions and reports. EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK The position is a full-time, exempt position and is ineligible for overtime. The work schedule is a 40-hour work week, Thursday-Monday to be available for parties, rentals and majority of specialized classes and programs utilizing the facility. This role may require flexible schedule for hours worked including opening/closing of facility or after hours work due to rentals and special events. TRAVEL Travel is primarily local during the business day. Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
