  • Graduation from high school or GED.
  • Three (3) years of experience in programs/events such as youth sports clinics, tournaments recreational leagues or special events.
Additional Qualifications:
  • Ability to receive Red Cross CPR/First Aid Standard certification within six months of hire.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of community recreation.
  • Knowledge of community recreation resources and facilities.
  • Knowledge of the principles of athletic tournament coordination.
  • Ability to effectively use office equipment and computer software, specifically in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • Certified Parks & Recreation Professional (CPRP) desired.
Available Schedule:
  • Tuesday-Saturday, 9:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
  • Hours are flexible during scheduled weekend tournaments and events.
Compensation & Information on Benefits This position is part of the AFSCME employee group. Learn more about our benefits HERE. **The salary range listed includes a scheduled salary increase and a 2.5% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) effective July 1, 2025**The anticipated hiring range for the Recreation Coordinator position is $28.83 (first step) to $30.27 or $31.78(second or third step).The City of Medford determines starting pay based on an evaluation of relevant education, experience, andqualifications as provided by the applicant in their application materials, alongside others who perform work of comparable character consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay Act. Six steps are included in this salary range, allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps. Healthcare Benefits:

Examples of Job Duties These duties are a representative example; position assignments may vary depending on the business needs of the department and organization. This position:
  • Serves as the Tournament Director and site supervisor for City-run youth tournaments encompassing event scheduling, bracketing, equipment and award procurement, promotion and customer relations. Ensures accuracy and timeliness of score posting and web content. Assists with umpire scheduling when necessary.
  • Assists Recreation Supervisor and Assistant Director with the solicitation of local, regional or national athletic events to Lithia & Driveway Fields, the Santo Community Center, Rogue X, and other civic recreation facilities.
  • Maximizes program quality and participation in youth leagues, programs and clinics. Assists with larger youth leagues such as NFL Youth Flag Football and Jr. Giants t-ball/baseball programs.
  • Recruits and trains volunteers necessary to efficiently operate youth leagues based on Department policies and procedures.
  • Monitors local, regional and national recreational trends and demands pertaining to youth recreation.
  • Vigorously promotes youth athletics programs using a variety of resources and methods. Assists with the development of program guides, publications, promotional materials, and marketing efforts. Vigilantly maintains other media, such as websites, social media, etc.
  • Works with sponsors to carry out contractual obligations.
  • Enforces Department and facility rules and regulations.
  • Scope of assigned area will depend on departmental structure and is at the discretion of the Recreation Superintendent.
  • Upholds the values of the organization and has strong customer service orientation.
  • Must have the ability to handle job stress and interact effectively and professionally with others in the workplace.
  • Must be honest and truthful in all tasks and responsibilities.
  • Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrates regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
