This position reports directly to the General Services Manager - SES in the Vital Statistics area of Escambia County Health Department (Escambia CHD). This is a specialized technical Deputy Registrar position involving record management, conscientious decision making, and initiative in implementing policies, programs, and services, within the Vital Statistics area. Responsible for the collection, review and maintenance of birth and death records as outlined in the Florida Statutes, Chapter 382 and the Administrative Code 10D-37 and 10D-49. Will provide assistance to the general public, hospital personnel and others as requested. The position requires communication in writing or orally with linguistic and cultural proficiency. Travel may be required.

Review applications to issue birth or death certificates in accordance with Florida Statutes and Administrative Codes. Process certificates to VA, law enforcement, Children and Families, and other state and non-government agencies. Process amendments from the State Office of Vital Statistics, track and issue certified documents utilizing the E-Vitals System. Collection of fees for both birth and death certificates issued and/or ordered as necessary. Process fetal death certificates for filing with the State Bureau of Vital statistics. Compile daily activities of funeral home accounts. Maintain a file on late death records and aid when needed to local funeral homes alerting Chief Deputy Registrar of reluctant Doctors. Prepare monthly statements for journal transfers for death certificates. Complete VITALCHEK orders by reviewing applications to determine appropriate type of Vital Statistics records to issue in accordance with the Florida Statutes and Administrative Codes. Order and reconcile Safety Paper purchases as referred to in the Chief Deputy Registrars Operations Manual (COM). Preparing monthly statements for journal transfers for death certificates. Maintain daily cash transfer log and cashier change fund. Answer telephones in the Vital Statistics Unit as needed. Perform various customer service functions as the main shipping area for Escambia CHD, notifying Department Divisions when deliveries have arrived. Perform courier duties. Other duties as assigned and participate in professional development opportunities and staff development and training.

Basic mathematics skills and communication skills. Uses information technology such as MS Office, EDRS (Electronic Death Records System), EVitals, VitalChek etc.

Minimum - High School diploma, 1-3 years Work Experience, and a Valid Driver's License Required.
