The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) provides highway safety and security through excellence in service, education, and enforcement. With a workforce of approximately 4,500 employees throughout the state, the Department is leading the way to a Safer Florida through the efficient and professional execution of its core mission: the issuance of driver licenses, vehicle tags and titles, and operation of the Florida Highway Patrol.
Duties and responsibilities include working collaboratively with law enforcement professionals and other stakeholders to provide high-level administrative support which will include answering incoming calls, providing customer service to internal and external customers, mail distribution, requisition of supplies, preparing correspondence, handling public requests, arranging meetings and travel requests, and additional clerical duties as required. This position is also responsible for maintaining various databases.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include having knowledge of general office procedures and basic filing practices, having skill in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Access, having the ability to type letters, memoranda, and other standard business forms in correct format using correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar, having ability to deal with the public in a courteous and efficient manner, having ability to operate general office equipment, being skilled in communicating effectively, verbally and in writing, having ability to prioritize, organize, and coordinate work assignments, and having ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Preferred qualifications include clerical experience (filing, typing, preparing, and maintaining records and/or reports) and experience providing customer service in-person or via telephone.
Job related requirements include the position being subject to a Level 2 background check, along with Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance, to include a fingerprint-based check of the criminal records of the FBI, as a condition of employment pursuant to Chapter 110.1127, 435 and 943, Florida Statutes. High School Diploma or GED equivalent is also required.
The elements of the selection process may include a skill assessment and/or oral interview. Applicants being considered for employment will be required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation, which will include a check of the criminal history records of the FBI. FLHSMV employees are paid once a month on the last workday of each month. All state employees are required to participate in the direct deposit program pursuant to s. 110.113 Florida Statutes.
