About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and licensed attorney in North Carolina with expertise in real estate law to manage surplus funds recovery processes for W.R.A. / Wealth Recovery Associates. This position focuses on navigating court procedures to secure surplus funds from real estate transactions, such as foreclosures or property sales. The ideal candidate will handle end-to-end legal tasks, from petitioning the court to attending primarily remote or virtual hearings, ensuring efficient and compliant outcomes for our clients. If you have a strong background in property law and thrive in virtual courtroom advocacy, this is an opportunity to contribute to high-impact real estate matters on a part-time basis.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and file petitions with North Carolina courts to claim and recover surplus funds from real estate proceedings.
• Draft legal documents, including court orders, motions, and any required responses to oppositions or inquiries.
• Represent clients in court hearings, primarily conducted remotely or virtually with the clerk of court, advocating for the approval and signing of orders related to surplus funds.
• Conduct thorough legal research on relevant North Carolina statutes, case law, and regulations pertaining to real estate surplus, foreclosures, and property rights.
• Communicate effectively with clients, court officials, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders to gather information and resolve issues.
• Monitor case progress, ensure compliance with deadlines, and provide updates on surplus recovery status.
• Handle any post-hearing tasks, such as enforcing signed orders and distributing recovered funds.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active and good-standing license to practice law in the State of North Carolina (bar admission required).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft precise legal documents and argue effectively in virtual or in-person court settings.
• Proficiency in legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) and case management software.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple cases, and meet court-imposed deadlines.
• Preferred: Experience with real estate title searches, escrow processes, or bankruptcy-related surplus claims.
