BASIC QUALIFICATIONS : •Must possess a minimum of a Master's degree in a Science Field, Technology Field, Engineering Field, Mathematics Field, Special Education, or STEM Industry Certification OR Master's Degree in Deaf Education Minimum of five (5) years successful STEM education teaching experience. A sign language proficiency level of INTERMEDIATE according to the AIDB evaluation system is required upon employment. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Certification in Educational AdministrationExperience teaching at a College or UniversityAn Alabama Teaching Certificate upon employment or be able to obtain an Alabama Teaching Certificate through reciprocity within six (6) months or employment or hold an Industry Teacher Certification from the State of Alabama.Minimum of ten (10) years of successful STEM education teaching experience.Five (5) successful years as an administrator. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Must obtain a Master's Degree in Deaf Education within thirty-six (36) months of employment.Assists with the general administration, supervision and management of the program unit including personnel, students, facilities, equipment, and fiscal responsibilities assigned.Knowledge of STEM Education programs and strategies and a working knowledge of STEM concepts (Robotics, Computer Science, etc.)Knowledge of federal and state statutes and laws concerning educational administration and programming, particularly as they relate to disabled individuals.Must be able to communicate effectively in writing.Knowledge of current trends and issues in education, rehabilitation services, Career/Technical Education, transition planning and/or career development planning.Must be able to develop and maintain rapport with staff members, students, parents, alumni, public school personnel, ASD staff members, AIDB, ADRS, employers, and others external to AIDB.Past work history that indicates good leadership skills; good interpersonal skills; good judgment, the ability to be creative and flexible; and exercise individual initiative. Provides administrative leadership to the faculty and staff assigned to the program unit. Prepares and submits records, reports, etc. pertaining to students as needed including reports to NTID, Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) and the United States Department of Education.Functions as a liaison between the program unit and other departments within the school, the Institute, employers (local, statewide and national), ALSDE, NTID and others.Determines prioritized departmental needs related to equipment, supplies, materials, etc. Manages departmental budget within budgetary allocations as per memorandum of understanding (MOU), policies and procedures. Submits work orders and maintenance/project requests as needed.Supervises and coordinates transportation needs as they relate to individual and group transport of students. Ensures that such trips are timely, efficient and cost-effective.Provides leadership in the development and implementation of curriculum improvement within the program unit in coordination with other departments.Makes recommendations for recruitment, hiring, retention and dismissal of staff members.Maintains and submits personnel records and forms in a timely manner, including, but not limited to sick leave, personal leave, payroll, etc., for staff members assigned.Assists with outreach services for public school and other students and programs in coordination with NTID Outreach Coordinator, AIDB Outreach, Special Education Coordinator and AIDB Regional Centers.Assists students with the entrance/application process for post-secondary facilities, colleges, universities, tech. schools, EH Gentry, employment, etc. in coordination with ADRS and parents.Recommends departmental in-service training programs, as well as, regional training programs.Supervises management of inventory including equipment, materials, and supplies assigned.Reviews, evaluates and recommends improvement plans related to the performance of each staff member.Functions as a contributing member of the NRSC team maintaining a plan for continuous improvement as part of the AIDB Strategic Plan, NTID mission, AIDB/NTID MOU, etc.Manages data collection and evaluation. Maintains memberships in professional organizations. Participates and encourages staff involvement in extra-curricular/after-school activities.Develops, maintains and manages grants and contracts related to NRSC.Researches and maintains up to date educational and workplace technology access. Supervises and manages the NRSC Virtual Tutoring Project.A sign language proficiency level of ADVANCED must be obtained within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
