BAE Systems is seeking a Director of Program Quality Engineering, reporting to the Sr. Director of Quality of the Controls and Avionics Solutions (CAS) Business Area. This onsite position will be located at Endicott, NY. You and your team will support military, space, and commercial product lines within the business area.

The Director is responsible for ensuring seamless transition and ongoing support of projects transitioning from Endicott to manufacturing facilities located in Endicott, NY and Fort Wayne, IN as well as newly assigned contracts to assure that the products or services meet the established standards of quality including reliability, usability and performance. This will include the entire program life cycle (Proposal, Design, Production, Services, and Sustainment). The Director will utilize his/her expertise in Quality to ensure compliance, drive process improvements, lead root cause corrective actions and guide business decisions.

This individual should have strong communications skills as well as having the ability to engage across all levels of the organization in building effective relationships. This position will interact with our customers (including USG, Commercial Air, and Prime Defense Customers) to keep programs on track and resolve problems real time.

As a part of an interdisciplinary program team (IPT), the Director will lead a team of program quality engineers to accomplish the following:

  • Review and assess customer/contractual quality requirements for compliance and coordinate with responsible business functions to ensure proper flow down
  • Support internal audit plans designed to ensure sustained compliance to AS9100 which form the basis of the BAE Systems Quality Management System.
  • Coordinate and support external/customer audits.
  • Interact with Supply Chain, Operations, Program Office and other Engineering disciplines to ensure compliance to Quality requirements and resolve Customer and Product Line nonconformances as required.
  • Serve as the overall voice of the customer to ensure that all requirements are accurately satisfied
  • Perform COPQ Data Extraction / Analysis /Compilation
  • Provide AS9145 leadership to Engineering & Programs, serve as champion for implementation and maintenance throughout the product life cycle from design to production. Build capability and drive best practices in SPC, FMEAs, KCs, MSAs, and Control Plans that result in favorable impacts to the business.
  • Collaborate with IPT for planning, execution, and management of risk mitigation, process improvements, and compliant process implementation and assurance.
  • Ensure products conform to established company and regulatory performance and quality standards. Manage compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and minimize risk to employees and liability to the Business Area and Operations.
  • Develop, recruit and align a highly capable quality assurance staff that partners seamlessly with Operations, Engineering and Programs to enhance the customer experience and support business area and factory needs through quality improvement.
  • Develop and implement guidance for quality control plans as well as acceptance criteria across the factories.
  • Investigate problems and develop disposition and corrective actions for discrepancies using proven RCCA techniques and driving sustainable preventive improvements.
  • Flawlessly implement corrective actions, dispositions, process optimization and modifications makes the news, doesn't just report the news.
  • Marshal resources to achieve challenging requirements, orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish a goal, use resources effectively and efficiently, and arrange information in a useful manner.

The successful candidate should:

  • Possess knowledge of Program Quality and Lifecycle Management establishing the foundation of the business knowledge required to effectively understand the wide span of control associated with product quality at incoming inspection, factories and sustainment.
  • Exhibit technical credibility including but not limited to the quality sciences, frameworks and tools (L6S, etc.) with ability to communicate highly technical information in a simplistic and easily understandable way.
  • Has the ability to effectively understand the program needs and align workforce across span of control to meet operations, customer and business needs.
  • Possess strong communication and presentation skills to facilitate effective communication at all levels of the organization and across multiple cultures.
  • Is a hands-on leader with experience leading high impact projects, take responsibility for resolving technical challenges, ensure successful tactical execution.
  • Has an agile leadership style and able to adjust one's approach to fit the situation as a driver, coach, mentor, and teacher.
  • Is familiar with various electronic manufacturing industry standards including J-STD-001/MIL-STD-883/MIL-PRF-38534/IPC610C and other applicable standards.
  • Can quickly evaluate organizational effectiveness and build a team working together to achieve common goals.
  • Has experience managing department budgets and utilization

Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree and 12 years of related experience
  • Experience as a Quality Leader with project, program and portfolio leadership experience in regulated industries, such as automotive, aerospace, defense, or medical.
  • Demonstrated mastery of the functional domain in Quality Sciences, strategies, standards, and controls. Ability to guide implementation in appropriate applications through design and development into high-mix/low-high volume manufacturing and supply chain.
  • Strong experience working collaboratively with Programs, Operations, Supply Chain and/or Quality functions to ensure business area success and customer satisfaction.
  • Approachable hands-on style with the ability to engage with people at all levels of management.
  • Demonstrated track record of recruiting, retaining and promoting talent and creating a high performing organization.
  • History of formulating strategic vision, definition of implementation plan of action, culminating in successful execution
  • Track record of building teams with high levels of Quality acumen
  • Able to obtain a US security clearance

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills:

  • Master's Degree
  • 5 years experience as a Sr Quality Leader and 10 years of project, program and portfolio leadership experience in regulated industries, such as automotive, aerospace, commercial, medical or defense.
  • AS9145 experience with implementation and maintenance internally through the product life cycle
  • LSS Green Belt or Black Belt certification
  • Direct experience in regulated factory operations management.
  • Experience with best-in-class manufacturing principles, techniques, and ZDP tools and processes

Pay Information:

Full-Time Salary Range: $150370 - $255630
