POSITION TITLE: COMPANY METALLURGIST/ QA MANAGER

DEPARTMENT: QUALITY CONTROL

REPORTS TO: PSC GENERAL MANAGER

FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT LOCATION: PSC

GRADE LEVEL: UNIT III/GRADE 14

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE(S) OF POSITION

Perform functions to ensure quality documentation and procedures are prepared and adhered to and to manage the Quality Control Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

2. Build team spirit, pride and camaraderie within team.

3. Promote safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous quality improvement in accordance with company policies.

4. Complies with all the policies and procedures set forth in the Company Handbook.

5. Utilize performance-based management tools to improve the standard of performance and development of the team members.

6. Champion ISO, Lean and Six Sigma, demonstrating knowledge and commitment to the process. Uphold and sustain 5S projects. Assume responsibility to assure company compliance, represent company in audits.

7. Partner with management to create and cultivate a quality culture to “Build In Quality”; empowering each team member to be responsible for the quality of their work.

8. Act as a senior gatekeeper for customer quality & risk. The primary point of contact for escalation and communication of all quality issues. Submit, review and approve product test reports, PPAP's, APQP's, etc. (as required) to satisfy customer requirements.

9. Assist in reviewing new product drawings, participate in development of new products, manufacturing processes and quality system improvements.

10. Create furnace recipes and assume responsibilities for performing metallurgical review. Review and approve heat treat test reports prior to shipping finished product.

11. Plan and carry out experimentation as needed to improve heat treat and quality processes or techniques.

12. Advise management and supervisors on metallurgical and heat treatment process procedures, problems, cycles, tests, and specifications.

13. Conduct metallurgical investigations to determine cause of material failure/non-conformance and prepare report on results.

14. Manage cost of testing supplies, equipment, calibrations, and repairs as needed to maintain Test Center and Quality Control departments and equipment.

15. Ensure inspectors are trained in all aspects of their roles, including health and safety and quality control instructions in order to maintain a cross functional, multi skilled workforce.

16. Inspect product for conformance to specifications, instructions and/or prints according to prescribed sampling plans. Identify non-conforming products and notify appropriate supervisor. 17. Investigate quality problems as they occur during the manufacturing process and recommend appropriate corrective action. 18. Performs other duties and responsibilities as apparent and/or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/JOB SPECIFICATIONS

The position qualifications and job specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or ability required to successfully perform the essential and additional duties and responsibilities of this position.

KNOWLEDGE

▪ BS in Metallurgy, Materials Science or appropriate Engineering or technical degree is preferred

▪ Broad knowledge of a discipline such as business, computer science, engineering, advanced medical technologies, graphic arts, social science, physical science, etc. Equivalent to a 4-year college education.

EXPERIENCE

▪ Over 5 years up to and including 7 years.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES

▪ Difficult work on highly technical or involved projects, presenting new or constantly changing problems. Duties require forecasting, broad conceptual judgment, initiative, and ability to deal with complex factors and ideas not easily evaluated. Makes decisions based on conclusions for which there is little precedent.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

▪ Establishes own standards of performance within overall organizational policy and protocol. Has full responsibility for developing and overseeing department/unit budget with direct accountability for final results. OR Requires an independent approach to highly creative work involving basic research in scientific areas without direction.

ERRORS AND QUALITY OF WORK

▪ Probable errors or impact on quality may involve major expenditures for capital equipment, organizational effort, material or products, or loss of customer accounts. Duties may involve the recommendation of organizational policies and/or preparation and presentation of data upon which top management bases important decisions.

CONTACT WITH OTHERS

▪ Contact with others within or outside the organization implementing organization policy and programs and influencing others where improper handling will have a marked effect on operating results.

WORKING CONDITIONS

▪ Good working conditions. Occasional exposure to elements such as odor, noise, dust, heat, cold, or chemicals. Some elements present which make conditions less than desirable.

CHARACTER OF SUPERVISION

▪ Direct supervision of a single department, section, function, or group involving responsibility for results in terms of budget, methods, and personnel.

SCOPE OF SUPERVISION

▪ Responsible for supervising more than 2 and seldom over 10 FTE. Note: FTE = full-time equivalent

• Knowledge of ISO, 6 Sigma and Lean.

• Ability to apply SPC techniques and procedures as required.
