Your future starts here.CPKC is hiring for June – July 2025.$15,000 signing bonus for new hires.PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:Locomotive Engineers are responsible for the safe operations of locomotives to provide quality freight transportation service through knowledge and through understanding of the operating rules governing train movement.POSITION REQUIREMENTS:Must currently possess a Class 1 Locomotive Engineers licenseWorked for a class 1 Railraod within the past year1 year experience as a Qualified Locomotive EngineerMust be able to perform work that can be physically demanding such as walking up to 6 miles a day on uneven ground, climbing up and down and lifting and pulling heavy objects (up to 80 pounds on occasion)Willingness to work unscheduled shift work in a 24/7 operating environmentWorking up to 12 hour shifts which include days, evenings, overnight, weekends and holidaysAbility to report to work within a two hour call window, after scheduled restExcellent focus, attention to detail and ability to multitaskStrong communication skills (provide clear and concise instructions/directions including over radio)Willingness to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions for long periods of timeMust be able to pass the required physical job tasks for the job position, written examinations, read and understand safety instructions, read and understand operating rules and regulations and other written or printed material in EnglishMust be at least 18 years oldHigh school diploma or general equivalencyValid driver's licenseRequired to complete classroom training program by successfully passing examinations and on-the-job trainingPOSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:Work in either train or yard service depending on seniorityCarry out specific instructions detailing a train's route and specific movementsCoordinate the switching of cars, including coupling and uncoupling cars and lifting out coupling deviceObserve, interpret, and relay signals and other indications affecting movement of trainSignal crew members for movement of the engine or train using specific signals, or radio to indicate when to start, stop, back-up, set or release air brakesMaintain a thorough understanding of and follow General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR), general orders and bulletinsProvide flag protection and relay signals to trains in an emergency situationMove on and off moving or stationary equipmentFill out forms including train orders and switch lists and prepare clear and legible reportsHandle emergency situations and operate fire extinguishers as well as be able to apply first aid techniquesWHAT CPKC HAS TO OFFER:Flexible and competitive benefits packageCompetitive company pension and/or retirement plansEmployee share purchase planAnnual fitness subsidyPart-time studies programFAMILIARIZATION TRAINING:While familiarizing you will earn $298.23 per day in classroom training and $298.23 to $360.33 on-the-job training. Once familiarization is complete you will earn various mileage based payments depending on the location which you are called to work if called to work a road switch assignment $42.90 hourly rate with overtime after 8 hours, and is governed by the labor agreement.PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:Medical and Drug TestingThis is a safety critical position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company or regulated drug test is required.
