Join our dynamic team as a Purchasing Specialist specializing in nutraceuticals, where you'll combine strategic procurement expertise with hands-on formulation science. This unique hybrid role offers the opportunity to drive product development from ingredient sourcing through final formulation, ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and regulatory compliance in the rapidly growing nutraceuticals industry.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Supply Chain Management

  • Source and procure raw materials, active ingredients, and packaging materials for nutraceutical products
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, and vendors globally
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to optimize cost while maintaining quality standards
  • Conduct supplier audits and quality assessments to ensure GMP compliance
  • Monitor market trends, pricing fluctuations, and supply chain disruptions
  • Manage inventory levels and coordinate with production planning teams
  • Evaluate and onboard new suppliers while maintaining approved vendor lists

Formulation & Product Development

  • Develop and optimize nutraceutical formulations including tablets, capsules, powders, and liquid supplements
  • Conduct stability testing and shelf-life studies for new and existing products
  • Collaborate with R&D teams to scale formulations from lab to commercial production
  • Ensure formulations meet regulatory requirements (FDA, NSF, USP standards)
  • Document formulation processes and maintain detailed batch records
  • Troubleshoot formulation issues and implement corrective actions
  • Support new product launches and product line extensions

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or related scientific field
  • 3-5 years of experience in nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, or food manufacturing
  • 2+ years of purchasing/procurement experience in regulated industries
  • Experience with dietary supplement formulation and manufacturing processes

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of nutraceutical ingredients, excipients, and functional additives
  • Understanding of GMP, FDA regulations, and dietary supplement guidelines
  • Proficiency in formulation software and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle )
  • Experience with analytical testing methods and specifications
  • Knowledge of packaging materials and labeling requirements
