Join our dynamic team as a Purchasing Specialist specializing in nutraceuticals, where you'll combine strategic procurement expertise with hands-on formulation science. This unique hybrid role offers the opportunity to drive product development from ingredient sourcing through final formulation, ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and regulatory compliance in the rapidly growing nutraceuticals industry.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Supply Chain Management
- Source and procure raw materials, active ingredients, and packaging materials for nutraceutical products
- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, and vendors globally
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms to optimize cost while maintaining quality standards
- Conduct supplier audits and quality assessments to ensure GMP compliance
- Monitor market trends, pricing fluctuations, and supply chain disruptions
- Manage inventory levels and coordinate with production planning teams
- Evaluate and onboard new suppliers while maintaining approved vendor lists
Formulation & Product Development
- Develop and optimize nutraceutical formulations including tablets, capsules, powders, and liquid supplements
- Conduct stability testing and shelf-life studies for new and existing products
- Collaborate with R&D teams to scale formulations from lab to commercial production
- Ensure formulations meet regulatory requirements (FDA, NSF, USP standards)
- Document formulation processes and maintain detailed batch records
- Troubleshoot formulation issues and implement corrective actions
- Support new product launches and product line extensions
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or related scientific field
- 3-5 years of experience in nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, or food manufacturing
- 2+ years of purchasing/procurement experience in regulated industries
- Experience with dietary supplement formulation and manufacturing processes
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of nutraceutical ingredients, excipients, and functional additives
- Understanding of GMP, FDA regulations, and dietary supplement guidelines
- Proficiency in formulation software and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle )
- Experience with analytical testing methods and specifications
- Knowledge of packaging materials and labeling requirements
