Axios Professional Recruitment is partnered with a Recycling Company, who is actively hiring a Scrap Metals Buyer to join their Grand Rapids, Michigan facility. This is a hands-on position leading the charge in determining metal quality, grade, pricing, and customer satisfaction oriented — ideal for a candidate who thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and wants to grow a company through internal operations.

Scrap Metals BuyerResponsibilities:

Customer Service

• Knowing our customers by name, and by knowing their materials
• Interacting with them as soon as they arrive with information on when and how we will serve them
• Being efficient, accurate and safe while unloading, loading, grading their material
• Making them feel like they are the most important person in the world right now
• Accurately pricing their material according to set, or special pricing

Grading Material

• Know all the materials we receive and ship
• Accurately grade materials when either receiving or shipping
• Ensure the quality of packaged materials meets our consumers standards
• Notify Metals Operations Manager of problems with material quality
• Deliver received materials to designated locations
• Keep accurate records for receiving and shipping according to our systems

Team Support:

• Inform them of what you are bringing into the yard and place in the designated areas
• Tell them when you are overwhelmed and need help serving a customer
• Understand the math/costs involved in processing all materials

Shipping and Receiving:

• Provide support as needed to shipping and receiving or production, ensuring timely and accurate processing of materials. This includes loading and unloading materials with a forklift.

Cross Training:

• Support the Operations team with cross-training to enhance skills and create a versatile team capable of working in many areas of plant production.

To be considered for the Metals Scale Buyer role, applicants should:

• Have experience in production operations with a strong understanding of metal recycling products
• Be familiar with heavy machinery such as hilo, skid steer, or bailers
• Possess strong communication and organizational skills
• Be tech-savvy, process-driven, and able to multitask across teams
