  • Demonstrate safety as a core value and establish a safe work environment by actively leading the safe execution of work.
  • Manage mill purchasing activities for raw materials, equipment and repair parts, industrial supplies, outside services, and miscellaneous commodities. This position is expected to provide input on strategic direction to the overall mill procurement process and represent individual mill interests in multi-mill purchasing activities
  • Lead mill purchasing activities and be the key mill contact for raw materials and specialty chemicals.
  • Develop knowledge of commodities used by the mill, as well as supply sources for the various commodities.
  • Develop expertise in SAP to become a mill SAP super-user with broad knowledge in troubleshooting, data mining, and teaching.
  • Partner with corporate sourcing and category managers on procurement initiatives. Work with corporate team on specifications and mill requirements to optimize the value derived from the materials and services purchased through the corporate sourcing process
  • Communicate and ensure compliance with purchasing policies and Sarbanes Oxley.
  • Ensures internal audit measures and reporting are compliant.
  • Support buyers with identifying and directing orders to supply sources that best meet the needs of the mill.
  • Research vendor capabilities, including interviewing supplier representatives, investigating financial and past performance information, visiting supplier facilities, and checking references.
  • Develop requests for proposals, analyze bids, and conduct decision analysis. Evaluate and select vendors. Negotiate pricing, terms of payment, warranties, delivery requirements, other related purchase details, and lead in purchase agreement development.
  • Lead communication of and compliance to ND Paper procurement processes and policies.
  • Prepares, reviews and collaborate with ND Paper legal department on vendor contracts.
  • Participate in formal initiatives and informal team activities to support Biron Mill objectives and providing leadership and coaching in support of mill vision.
  • Update professional knowledge by consistently participating in educational opportunities.
  • Be available outside of core business hours (remotely) to field urgent purchasing concerns.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field.
  • Minimum of three years of progressively responsible purchasing experience.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing operations.
  • Must have obtained or be willing to obtain Certified Purchasing Manager designation through N.A.P.M. or other supply management association.
  • Formal purchasing training, OR Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven problem solving and decision-making skills, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast paced, dynamic environment

Preferred
  • 2 - 5 years supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite, emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint, SAP
