Purchasing Manager

We are seeking a Purchasing Manager for our corporate offices in Lee's Summit, MO. In this role, you will be responsible for driving the strategic plan for supply chain, along with the day-to-day management of the purchasing and warehousing departments. You will develop and maintain strategic relationships with suppliers to support long-term company growth.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and executes supply chain strategies and plans.
  • Owns the supplier management process including supplier performance, metrics, international issues, strategic agreements, and communication of customer flow through requirements such as FAR/DFARS, ITAR, offset, public law, quality, warranty, etc.
  • Directs all material activities, including translating engineering specifications to material requirements, and allows an analysis of make or buy alternatives.
  • Develops and leads supply chain proposal activities including task descriptions and bases of estimates.
  • Maintains an effective department with the objective of continuous improvement in product cost, quality and delivery, and in developing effective long term supplier relationships and capabilities.
  • Ensures the quality and timely delivery of purchased items in support of production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Partners with Operations to coordinate PFEP and update systems as needed.
  • Ensures continuous improvement for efficient processes and workflows in each area. Identifies process bottlenecks and participates in Kaizen events to improve.
  • Monitors and proactively addresses performance and financial metrics including those related to cost, schedule, and quality.
  • Directs the planning and control of inventory, controlling inventory costs, and ensuring support to all manufacturing and marketing operations.
  • Advises suppliers with Supplier Management Best Practices which include risk mitigation and subcontract management plans.
  • Other duties as required and assigned.

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance or related field with 5+ years' minimum of previous working experience in manufacturing, construction, building materials or similar operations.
  • Experience with Chemicals is required. Experience with raw materials, liquids, powders as well as parts, fuel and transportation related needs are preferred.
  • Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office is required.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict management skills, as well as a demonstrated analytical expertise to plan, solve problems, and establish priorities, are required.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills to interact with a wide audience of internal and external customers is required.
