Purchasing Manager - Dorman Products : Job Details

Job Summary

Develops and leads all purchasing strategy with a focus on business growth in a cost-controlled environment. Lead critical decision-making in areas of min-max strategy, on-hand inventory targets, adjustments for changing lead times, and analyzing/managing order point algorithms. Balance the goal of WOWing the customers with on-hand inventory with the need to manage inventory investment.

Primary Duties

• Direct management of the buyer team responsible for all ordering, using current sales data, historical data, seasonality trends, and sales forecasts to determine appropriate quantities and timing.
• Communicate with internal departments and leadership on supplier performance and inventory availability.
• Collaborate with Sales and Marketing for upcoming sales campaigns and promotions.
• Direct buyers in managing assigned categories.
• Work with New Product Development to understand products.
• Coordinate with suppliers on consistent and timely order fulfillment.
• Analyze, anticipate, and react to product seasonality trends.
• Provide training and onboarding for all buyers.
• Supplier & Product Management
• Negotiate terms, pricing, lead times, and Minimum Order Quantities (MOQ) as needed.
• Update supplier information, pricing, MOQ, and lead times as needed.
• Communicate directly with suppliers on production plans and ways to improve efficiency.
• Provide accurate and timely reporting on inventory position, investment, and actions implemented.

Education / Experience

• Skills and abilities consistent with a college degree.
• 5-7 years of advanced level purchasing and ERP experience, or 10+ years of such experience with a bachelor degree.
• Proven track record of leading a team of buyers for a minimum of 5 years.
• Proven experience in employee development and team advancement.
