POSITION SUMMARY
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing the purchasing team and ensuring the efficient procurement of materials, components, and services required for automotive conveyor manufacturing. This role involves strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, cost control, and adherence to Japanese business principles such as Kaizen, Just-in-Time (JIT), and 5S. The ideal candidate will drive process improvements, enhance supplier performance, and support company objectives related to cost, quality, and delivery.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform the job successfully, the individual must be able to execute each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties, assignments, and specific projects may be assigned at the discretion of management.
- Lead and manage the purchasing team, providing guidance and support to ensure efficient procurement operations.
- Develop and implement purchasing strategies aligned with production needs and corporate goals.
- Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to achieve optimal pricing, quality, and delivery performance.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee supplier performance, conducting regular evaluations and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Monitor inventory levels and collaborate with production planning to ensure material availability while minimizing excess stock.
- Drive cost reduction initiatives through supplier negotiations, process improvements, and value analysis.
- Foster strong relationships with Japanese and international suppliers, ensuring cultural alignment and effective communication.
- Utilize the Santa system to track purchasing activities, manage supplier data, and analyze procurement trends.
- Work closely with engineering, logistics, and quality teams to resolve supply chain challenges and enhance efficiency.
- Stay updated on market trends, raw material cost fluctuations, and industry developments to mitigate supply chain risks.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives in line with Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen principles.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Education:Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience:5+ years of procurement experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the automotive or industrial equipment sector.
- Strong knowledge of procurement best practices, contract negotiation, and supplier management.
- Experience working with Japanese suppliers and familiarity with Japanese business culture is highly .
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong leadership and communication abilities with experience managing teams.
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Bilingual in English and Japanese is a plus.
