What You'll Do: Locating sources of materials and subcontractors; evaluating sources to ensure they meet project and Bowen standards
SUMMARY:
The Purchasing Agent (Construction Manager at Risk - CMAR) will report directly to the Purchasing Manager, assisting in the overall procurement process for the company. Specifically locating sources of materials and subcontractors; evaluation of those sources to ensure they meet project requirements and minimum safety, quality, and financial metrics; develop project specific scopes of work/supply, initiate requests for proposals/bids to qualified sources, detailing the specific requirements of the requisition; then evaluate all proposals ensuring compliance to the instructions; and prepare deliverables for Client review.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interpret construction documents, contracts, plans, and specs.
- Develop scopes of work
- Prepare and evaluate Request for Proposals (RFP's)
- Evaluate proposals and quotations and develop comparative bid tabs
- Analyze financial reports, safety logs, quality manuals, and other data
- Research and evaluate suppliers based on safety, price, quality, availability, reliability, capabilities, and reputation.
- Assist in commercial terms negotiations with supplier representatives
- Maintain positive and ethical relations with subcontractors and vendors/suppliers
- Support Bowen's supplier prequalification database
- Coordinate with Estimating and Operations throughout the buyout cycle
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
- 2+ years of industry experience as a Project Engineer/Manager or Technical sales
- AS or BS in business, engineering, construction management or equivalent degree and a minimum of 2 years' experience in construction or equivalent work/field/military experience.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES NECESSARY:
- Have ability to analyze and filter critical data from construction, safety, and financial documents
- Ability to learn, adapt, and improve processes and responsibilities
- Possess strong communication and organizational skills
- Maintain attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Be a team player but able to work independently to meet intense deadlines, goals and objectives
- Ability to be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and project management/database software
- Minimal travel required
- Must be able to lift 5 pounds occasionally
