Overview Public Works Technicians in Flood Control operate and maintain the City of Corpus Christi's Storm Water Pumping Stations to prevent flooding during rain events and severe storms
Responsibilities • Obeying all traffic laws while operating fleet vehicles and equipment from one location to another while following all City policies • Operating on even or uneven terrain such as streets & earthen rights-of-way • Performing daily Pre/Post-trip inspections on all types of equipment and vehicles • Following the Traffic control standards as per the Texas MUTCD Work Zone Traffic Control Guide • Maintaining rotation of all equipment such as pumps, generators, combustion engines, etc. to ensure proper performance • Daily-and weekly preventive maintenance, visual inspections, and make necessary repairs using hand and power tools, and electric instruments • Providing flood control by monitoring weather information systems such as NOAA, and TV Broadcast • Maintaining relief line valves inside manholes • Performing housekeeping with chemical supplies, brooms, mops, etc • Recording equipment maintenance and repair, and vehicle inspections • Responding to after-hours and weekends emergencies • Working under emergency responses during and or after any city emergency event. Example: Hurricanes, tropical storms, ice storms or any other city emergency • Employees will work On-Call Duty rotation schedule and must be able to work different rotation shifts under emergency responses • Leading a team, if needed • Keeping materials stock in vehicles assignment, must communicate when supply/material is low • Working in high traffic areas, confined spaces and/or elevated conditions • Evaluating safe work conditions • Proficient in decision making • Communicating with internal or external customers and be professional under any conditions • Ensuring proper communication with the foreman, work coordinator, planner/ scheduler, and assistant director • Completing daily reports, work orders
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non-Exempt - Full-Time • Rotating 40-hour work week, 24-hour shifts, 7 days a week
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

Minimum Qualifications • High School Diploma/GED • Two (2) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications Required • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
Required within six (6) months of hire • Certification in Traffic Control & Flagging (within 6 months) • Certification in Confine Space (within 6 months)
Required within one (1) year of hire • Underground Storage Tank Class C Operator Cert (acquire within 1 year)

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
