Salary : $45,760.00 - $64,188.80 Annually Location : 33154, FL Job Type: Full-Time = 1 FTE Job Number: 2024-0309 Department: Police Department Opening Date: 07/01/2025 Closing Date: 8/25/2025 3:45 PM Eastern Description The Public Service Aide position supplements the sworn officer ranks by assuming portions of the non-enforcement calls for service and administrative tasks to maximize the services of the remaining complement of the Department. Reports to Parking Enforcement Supervisor or a person of a higher position as determined by Police Chief. This is accomplished as follows: • Utilizing Public Service Aides in situations involving non-enforcement calls for service and station details instead of sworn officers that are related specifically to the Town of Bay Harbor Islands areas to include the Business District and other areas within the Town. • Promoting police/public relations through exposure of P.S.A. 's through community projects, court time, and special events. • Enforcement of parking regulations within the Town's Parking Department. Examples of Duties The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position. • Assists in the maintenance of the parking pay stations, helps with traffic related issues and transports equipment such as stop signs, barricades and cones to help the flow of traffic. • Traffic Crash Investigations. • Administer First Aid/CPR assistance. • Patrols off-street and on-street controlled areas, effectively enforcing ordinances/violations. • Issues citations (or warnings) to vehicles in violation of municipal/county parking ordinances, ensuring that all information on the citation is accurate and complete. • Patrol controlled parking areas. • Enforce parking ordinances. • Respond to parking related complaints/issues. • Provide general assistance/information to the public. • Disseminate crime prevention/community policing and public safety literature and information. • Conduct minor property investigation follow-up. • Testifies in court when necessary and prepares documentation for court. • Respond to traffic accidents. • Direct traffic flow. • Patrol assigned zones, reporting any suspicious activity/vehicles/persons to dispatch, and requesting assistance when necessary. (Does not aid in the apprehension of subjects or in progress calls). • Investigate non-police action calls. • Message return/follow-up. • Interviewing skills. • Problem solving, the member has the ability to identify and analyze problems, develop effective responses and solutions to resolve such problems. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED; Must maintain a valid Florida state driver's license. Must be 18 years of age or older. Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must attend and successfully pass a Police Service Aide Academy within 12 months of employment date unless otherwise approved by the Chief of Police. May be required to work extended hours, holidays, and emergency situations as an essential employee of the Town of Bay Harbor Islands. May be required to have or obtain additional formal industry certification(s) based on area of assignment. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Parking Enforcement Certification preferred. Public Service Aide Certification preferred. Supplemental Information KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: • Knowledge of Dispatch codes/Radio Communications. • Knowledge of geographical jurisdiction. • Inter-personal skills. • Advanced ability to operate a computer using Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel), Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat and applicable department / organizational software. • Ability to effectively communicate ideas about improving processes or procedures to attain or maintain compliance with specific standards. • Ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion. • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. • Ability to deal effectively with the public. • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. • Ability to organize work for timely completion. • Ability to regularly attend work and arrive punctually for designated work schedule. • Ability to pass the required background check and drug screening. • Ability to report to work as directed during an emergency as an essential employee of the Town of Bay Harbor Islands. • Assists with Crossing Guard Program.
