The University of Texas Permian Basin's Police Department welcomes applications for the position of Public Safety Officer / GuardSalary Range$34,500.00 depending on qualificationsEssential FunctionsThe Public Safety Officer / Guard plays an important role in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and orderly campus environment at The University of Texas Permian Basin. Responsible for safeguarding university property and supporting the safety and welfare of students, employees, and visitors, this position enforces parking regulations, monitors buildings and grounds, and responds to potential security or safety concerns. Officers serve as a visible and approachable presence on campus, providing information and assistance to the community while ensuring compliance with institutional policies and state regulations. Working under the direction of the Chief of Police, this role contributes to the university's mission by promoting a secure environment where academic and student success can thrive.* Enforce laws, university policies, and Regents' Rules to ensure the protection, safety, and welfare of students, employees, visitors, and property.* Patrol campus buildings and grounds by vehicle or on foot, checking for fires, water leaks, hazards, or suspicious activity, and report irregularities.* Provide assistance and customer service to students, employees, and visitors, including offering directions, information, and support during campus events.* Monitor vehicle entry and parking, issue permits and citations, and direct traffic flow when needed.* Maintain building security by ensuring only authorized personnel have access, issuing visitor badges, and keeping accurate logs.* Prepare reports on incidents, violations, or safety concerns as required.* Serve as a Campus Security Authority in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Act.* Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief of Police.Required Qualifications1. Graduation from high school, vocational school or equivalent.2. Knowledge and skill in operation of radio communications equipment, computerized security alarm systems, CCTV monitors and department vehicles.3. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments. The work schedule may vary and is planned to best provide coverage to the University. The applicant must be flexible to meet the department's needs which will include working some weekends, holidays, and/or nights. Shifts are 8 hours.Standard Working Conditions1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.6.
