Public Relations Account Director - VANSARY : Job Details

Location: New York, NY (Hybrid – 2–3 days a week in-office)

Compensation: Base + performance bonus + profit-sharing opportunity

The Opportunity

We're growing and seeking a strategic, media-savvy Director of Strategic Communications to help guide high-impact campaigns, mentor junior talent, and shape the future of our agency. This is a hands-on role for someone who can toggle between high-level strategy, client management, and day-to-day media execution. The ideal candidate has a sharp editorial eye, a love of storytelling, and a deep understanding of the evolving media landscape. Bonus for an extra dose of love for finance, fintech, payments, blockchain, and AI sectors.

Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership

• Own 3–5 key client accounts across PR, thought leadership, and visibility strategies
• Develop and oversee holistic communications plans aligned to business objectives
• Identify media moments, narrative opportunities, and cultural/market trends
• Lead strategic brainstorms and ensure messaging cohesion across channels

Media Relations

• Drive consistent coverage in top-tier business and trade media (e.g., Axios, TechCrunch, WSJ, Bloomberg)
• Maintain and grow media relationships; act as senior liaison between reporters and clients
• Oversee all pitch strategy, media list development, and message testing
• Coach junior staff on media engagement and editorial standards

Client Engagement

• Serve as a strategic advisor to C-suite and founder-level clients
• Lead account check-ins, progress reporting, and quarterly reviews
• Proactively identify upsell opportunities and expansion scopes for client programs
• Deliver clear, confident counsel during high-stakes or crisis moments

Team Development

• Manage and mentor 2–4 junior team members (Associates, Specialists)
• Set professional development plans, conduct reviews, and model inclusive leadership
• Collaborate with leadership on company culture, internal process building, and resourcing

New Business & Thought Leadership

• Lead and support pitches for new clients and project work
• Contribute to internal marketing, thought leadership, and Vansary's own media presence
• Represent Vansary at events, industry panels, and webinars when relevant

What You Bring

• 7–10 years of experience in public relations or communications (agency experience strongly preferred)
• Deep expertise in media strategy, storytelling, and executive positioning
• Strong relationships with business, innovation, fintech, or tech reporters
• Proven success in managing complex client accounts and junior teams
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup-minded agency environment
