The Town Of Zebulon, the second fastest growing community in North Carolina, is seeking individuals to join its Parks and Recreation Department. With a population of 11,800 and expected to reach 25,000 by 2030, Zebulon boasts six parks, a community center, multiple public spaces, and various athletic programs. The department values the ideas and talents of all employees, ensuring that everyone who visits the parks and participates in the programs has a clean and beautiful place to enjoy recreation.
The purpose of this position is to perform routine work such as locking and unlocking facilities for athletic practices and games; acting as the first point of contact for the general public while at the facility, and scorekeeping for youth and adult sports leagues and tournaments. This position may also be required to assist with other Town programs and events, as needed.
Essential Functions
- Opens and closes assigned parks and facilities
- Acts as the first point of contact for the general public while at Town parks and facilities
- Handles difficult situations involving players, coaches and spectators during assigned shift
- Ensures scheduled games and practices begin and end on time
- Administers first aid supplies as needed
- Communicates issues and problems to full-time athletics staff and emergency personnel
- Ensures gyms and playing fields have been properly set up for games and practices
- Fills out daily score report forms, accident/incident report forms, and ensures the accuracy of reports filled out by other athletic aides
- Enforces Town of Zebulon/Town of Zebulon Parks and Recreation policies
- Provides routine information on departmental policies, procedures, and services
- Assists with other Department programs and events
- Performs other job-related tasks as required
The flexible, year-round work schedule is pre-determined monthly. Hours will include weekday evenings, as well as Saturdays and/or Sundays.

Qualifications

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to perform the basic life operational skills of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
- Must be able to perform medium work, exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift objects.
- Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze written or computer data, depth and color perception, use of measuring devices, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, observing general surroundings and activities.
- Must possess the auditory ability to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by the means of the spoken word.
- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.
Desirable Education and Experience:
- Must be at least 16 years of age, at time of application
- Education should be at a level that provides the ability to read and understand instructions.
- Those attending high school must acquire a valid work permit.
- CPR/First Aid Certified preferred
- Valid NC Driver's License
- Spanish Speaking desirable but not required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience in customer services
- Basic working knowledge of major sports such as baseball, volleyball, softball, soccer, basketball and some knowledge of other sports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and Town staff.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
